"I categorically denounce any statement that disparages our great country or serves to divide us from our allies," Obama said in his blog posting. "I also believe that words that degrade individuals have no place in our public dialogue, whether it's on the campaign stump or in the pulpit. In sum, I reject outright the statements by Reverend Wright that are at issue."
In a sermon on the Sunday after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, Wright suggested the United States brought on the attacks.
"We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye," Wright said. "We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost."
In a 2003 sermon, he said blacks should condemn the United States.
"The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing 'God Bless America.' No, no, no, God damn America, that's in the Bible for killing innocent people. God damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme."
He also gave a sermon in December comparing Obama to Jesus, promoting his candidacy and criticizing his rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
"Barack knows what it means to be a black man to be living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people," Wright told a cheering congregation. "Hillary can never know that. Hillary ain't never been called a nigger."
Obama told MSNBC that he would not repudiate Wright as a man, describing him as "like an uncle" who says something that he disagrees with and must speak out against. He also said he expects his political opponents will use video of the sermons to attack him as the campaign goes on.
Questions about Obama's religious beliefs have dogged him throughout his candidacy. He's had to fight against false Internet rumors suggesting he's really a Muslim intent on destroying the United States, and now his pastor's words uttered nearly seven years ago have become an issue.
Obama wrote on the Huffington Post that he never heard Wright say any of the statements, but he acknowledged that they have raised legitimate questions about the nature of his relationship with the pastor and the church. He wrote that he joined Wright's church nearly 20 years ago, familiar with the pastor's background as a former Marine and respected biblical scholar who lectured at seminaries across the country.
"Reverend Wright preached the gospel of Jesus, a gospel on which I base my life," he wrote. "And the sermons I heard him preach always related to our obligation to love God and one another, to work on behalf of the poor and to seek justice at every turn."
He said Wright's controversial statements first came to his attention at the beginning of his presidential campaign last year, and he condemned them. Because of his long and deep ties to the 6,000-member congregation church, Obama said he decided not to leave.

"With Reverend Wright's retirement and the ascension of my new pastor, Rev. Otis Moss III, Michelle and I look forward to continuing a relationship with a church that has done so much good," he wrote.
Also Friday, the United Church of Christ issued a 1,400-word statement defending Wright and his "flagship" congregation. The statement lauded Wright's church for its community service and work to nurture youth and the pastor for speaking out against homophobia and sexism in the black community.
"It's time for all of us to say no to these attacks and to declare that we will not allow anyone to undermine or destroy the ministries of any of our congregations in order to serve their own narrow political or ideological ends," John H. Thomas, United Church of Christ's president, said in the statement. ___

There are plenty of countries with freedom of speech that don't treat their citizens the way the US does... There are a lot of countries that let people have a voice, AND don't have a class of working poor.
Sadly, American policy (foreign and domestic) does have a nasty habit of affecting the rest of the world, so I guess it's fair enough for Americans to think they are the world outside of "Commie Muslim Land" (generic term - not implying all US residents are so ignorant as to think Communism and Islam coexist)

That's why, even though I'm not a US citizen, I'm hoping that Obama gets in.
Having looked at the major campaigners, even though he's inexperienced, he seems to have the fewest number of ties to big business, and also seems to actually have some hope and care for the future, instead of just trying to make people richer now.

And this is why we're glad that one less clueless idiot doesn't live here.

This issue boils down to one thing. Do you want to have someone is office that shares the same idealology as this black panther Reverand. Obama claims he didn't know of this fools hatred toward the US and white people but how do you:

1) Attend a church for 20 years
2) Marriage ceremonies preformed by the Rev.
3) Children babtised by the Rev.
4) Give thousands of dollars to the church. Most recently a $20k gift in 2006.
5) Claim to be your spiritual mentor
6) Place this Rev. in a role with your campaign.

and not know of the views of the chuch and the pastor of the church. Obama is lying. His wife and Reverand have allready proven themselves to be racist and biggots. Is he a biggot as well??

We're waiting...

Fuck off liberal piece of shit. That was a quote from a thread 2 months ago. Believe you me..I could have started this thread concerning Obama's black panther ways but I didn't. I have decided to refrain from starting political threads. That is unless someone else brings it up first.

Lets talk facts. Obama is associated with a racist biggot freak of a Reverend. He has given thousands upon thousands of dollars to this man even recently to help the Rev. push his hatred. His Rev. has ties to the new black panther party and has even went on a trib recently to Libyia with Farrakhan.

I am sorry that being an Obamabot just lost a little of it's luster. His fault not mine.

Fuck off liberal piece of shit.
I vote across the board, so as much of a piece of shit I may be, a liberal I am not. I vote for whoever is best for the job.

Less than a month actually.

You may not start them, but you sure don't waste anytime jumping in and spouting liberal hate "bush is the greatest thing ever" speech. Lets face facts, Obama could turn this country into the great country it once was and all you could do is sit in a corner pissing and moaning cause you still can't understand his stance on issues.

Honestly, at first I read each of your posts because I thought you would have valid claims, but now its clear that your as much of a republican "piece of shit" as the liberals you seam to hate so ever much.

Politics! Fun!
Disclaimer: Most people would not call me a liberal, at least in the modern sense of the term. I am a libertarian, which is extreme right wing to a lot of people. Historically only the nuttiest conservatives and fake conservatives ( you know like Bush and his blind followers. NO real conservative could really like Bush, and its kinda funny such a man has played a lot of you for fools.) would ever call me a flaming liberal. But I have the feeling I am a flaming liberal here. I guess I did the Murray Rothbard dance of standing in the same place but somehow changing labels by the idiots who hijack them.

That said, I have ZERO problem with anyone criticizing The US. To oppose the criticism of our country is very UN-American. I'm pretty sure the Founding Fathers would HATE the current state of the country. Were they flaming liberals? Hell No. Were the fake conservative Bushites so critical of anyone who criticized Clinton? Hell No.

People in power ( this being a key distinction frm the actual People) in this country have done a lot of fucked up things. And it is right to criticize them.

FWIW, the Black Panthers were probably a definitive REAL American group of people. I say this is as (cnsidered by most) a conservative white guy. I am not some fake conservative that believes only straight white males have rights. I believe in individual rights and I abhor the state ( conservatives loving the State and State Power, wtf? Thought you guys hated Commies?/ oh, ok you dont mind Nazis..I see). black guys wanted to exercise their right to bear arms and exercise self defense?/ Oh shit. I thought real conservatives supported the right to self defense? Oh only for white guys? I see.

Further, expecting to be treated as an individual and speaking out against abuses does not make someone a racist or a socialist. As a hardcore capitalist individualist, i find PLENTY that the government and structures/people of power/authority do to fuck up things and hurt people.

I dont see how you can hold someone's church against them unless you want to apply the same standard to everyone. All churches are full of bigots. But if they happen to be black it is unexcusable? What about all the racist/sexist/gay-bashing/anti-Catholic churches that all the other politicians belong to?

Shit it seems all the fake conservatives ( again Bush is not fiscally conservative one bit and panders and laughs at all the idiot social conservative bigots) bsically stand for rights for a certain class of people but ifanyone else has an opinion about anything or just wants to be treated as an individual they must be a "flamng liberal". Right, buddy.

Let me get this right: conservatives worship the state while liberals support individualism and thought?

I learn something new here every day.

Understand his stance? This shows how much you know about politics and even your beloved Obama. Just because I believe Obama and Hillary to be terrible choices for the US, doesnt mean I support Bush. Nor do my opinions need to be met with hateful liberal backlash. I have never personally insulted anyone for any stupid bullshit opinion, unless I have been attacked first.

I have stated in a thread that in 20 years he will be looked on favorably. Is that supporting him no..thats an opinion that I and alot of other "thinkers" believe. That does not mean I think he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Hell no. Bush is too liberal for me.

Obama is a racist. His wife's true colors have allready surfaced. His spiratual advisor and mentor has been called out now for his hate. All we need now is a slip and everyone will see Obama's racist ways as well.

Since some of the previous Obama threads, I have looked into his policy plans and they scare the shit outa me.

1) Trillion dollar social "welfare" spending plan
2) Cut out all investment in new millitary technologies
3) Dismantle and cut out all weapons in space ( Will China follow suit..NOPE)
4) Increase aid to Africa. WTF George Bush is allready spending more in Africa than any other pres in history. How much more can we afford.
5) Dismantle ALL nuclear weapons. (You think Russia will do the same..NOPE)
6) Hold talks with know dictators and terrorist. WTF are you gona talk about with a Islamic extremist!!!!

Obama will weaken our allready unstable economy. He will cripple our military. He is bad news. I just call em as I see them.

Wow..read up on the new black panther movement. Just a little quote from one of their leaders.

"I called them [Jews] bloodsuckers. I'm not going to change that. Our lessons talk about the bloodsuckers of the poor in the supreme wisdom of the Nation of Islam. It's that old no-good Jew, that old imposter Jew, that old hooked-nose, bagel-eating, lox-eating, Johnny-come-lately perpetrating a fraud, just crawled out of the caves and hills of Europe, so-called damn Jew. . . and I feel everything I'm saying up here is kosher."

This was just something I found in 20 seconds. I could look a little harder and find the quotes stating that jews should be wiped off the face of the earth. The Black Panthers and the KKK are no different. One is white the other is black...basically same views.

Just because I believe Obama and Hillary to be terrible choices for the US, doesnt mean I support Bush. Nor do my opinions need to be met with hateful liberal backlash.

But any opinion that is not your own is instantly from a flaming thoughtless liberal? How do you rate? Every time anyone posts anything that is pro liberal it is met with hateful backlash from you.

When Senator Obama's preacher thundered about racism and injustice Obama suffered smear-by-association. But when my late father -- Religious Right leader Francis Schaeffer -- denounced America and even called for the violent overthrow of the US government, he was invited to lunch with presidents Ford, Reagan and Bush, Sr.

Every Sunday thousands of right wing white preachers (following in my father's footsteps) rail against America's sins from tens of thousands of pulpits. They tell us that America is complicit in the "murder of the unborn," has become "Sodom" by coddling gays, and that our public schools are sinful places full of evolutionists and sex educators hell-bent on corrupting children. They say, as my dad often did, that we are, "under the judgment of God." They call America evil and warn of immanent destruction. By comparison Obama's minister's shouted "controversial" comments were mild. All he said was that God should damn America for our racism and violence and that no one had ever used the N-word about Hillary Clinton.
Dad and I were amongst the founders of the Religious right. In the 1970s and 1980s, while Dad and I crisscrossed America denouncing our nation's sins instead of getting in trouble we became darlings of the Republican Party. (This was while I was my father's sidekick before I dropped out of the evangelical movement altogether.) We were rewarded for our "stand" by people such as Congressman Jack Kemp, the Fords, Reagan and the Bush family. The top Republican leadership depended on preachers and agitators like us to energize their rank and file. No one called us un-American.

Consider a few passages from my father's immensely influential America-bashing book A Christian Manifesto. It sailed under the radar of the major media who, back when it was published in 1980, were not paying particular attention to best-selling religious books. Nevertheless it sold more than a million copies.

Here's Dad writing in his chapter on civil disobedience:

If there is a legitimate reason for the use of force [against the US government]... then at a certain point force is justifiable.

And this:

In the United States the materialistic, humanistic world view is being taught exclusively in most state schools... There is an obvious parallel between this and the situation in Russia [the USSR]. And we really must not be blind to the fact that indeed in the public schools in the United States all religious influence is as forcibly forbidden as in the Soviet Union....
Then this:

There does come a time when force, even physical force, is appropriate... A true Christian in Hitler's Germany and in the occupied countries should have defied the false and counterfeit state. This brings us to a current issue that is crucial for the future of the church in the United States, the issue of abortion... It is time we consciously realize that when any office commands what is contrary to God's law it abrogates it's authority. And our loyalty to the God who gave this law then requires that we make the appropriate response in that situation...
Was any conservative political leader associated with Dad running for cover? Far from it. Dad was a frequent guest of the Kemps, had lunch with the Fords, stayed in the White House as their guest, he met with Reagan, helped Dr. C. Everett Koop become Surgeon General. (I went on the 700 Club several times to generate support for Koop).

Dad became a hero to the evangelical community and a leading political instigator. When Dad died in 1984 everyone from Reagan to Kemp to Billy Graham lamented his passing publicly as the loss of a great American. Not one Republican leader was ever asked to denounce my dad or distanced himself from Dad's statements.
Take Dad's words and put them in the mouth of Obama's preacher (or in the mouth of any black American preacher) and people would be accusing that preacher of treason. Yet when we of the white Religious Right denounced America white conservative Americans and top political leaders, called our words "godly" and "prophetic" and a "call to repentance."
We Republican agitators of the mid 1970s to the late 1980s were genuinely anti-American in the same spirit that later Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson (both followers of my father) were anti-American when they said God had removed his blessing from America on 9/11, because America accepted gays. Falwell and Robertson recanted but we never did.

My dad's books denouncing America and comparing the USA to Hitler are still best sellers in the "respectable" evangelical community and he's still hailed as a prophet by many Republican leaders. When Mike Huckabee was recently asked by Katie Couric to name one book he'd take with him to a desert island, besides the Bible, he named Dad's Whatever Happened to the Human Race? a book where Dad also compared America to Hitler's Germany.
The hypocrisy of the right denouncing Obama, because of his minister's words, is staggering. They are the same people who argue for the right to "bear arms" as "insurance" to limit government power. They are the same people that (in the early 1980s roared and cheered when I called down damnation on America as "fallen away from God" at their national meetings where I was keynote speaker, including the annual meeting of the ultraconservative Southern Baptist convention, and the religious broadcasters that I addressed.
Today we have a marriage of convenience between the right wing fundamentalists who hate Obama, and the "progressive" Clintons who are playing the race card through their own smear machine. As Jane Smiley writes in the Huffington Post "[The Clinton's] are, indeed, now part of the 'vast right wing conspiracy.'

Both the far right Republicans and the stop-at-nothing Clintons are using the "scandal" of Obama's preacher to undermine the first black American candidate with a serious shot at the presidency. Funny thing is, the racist Clinton/Far Right smear machine proves that Obama's minister had a valid point. There is plenty to yell about these days.:D

I don't understand how people can ignore the facts and see what they want to see. Um wasn't Obama raised NOT by his black (panther?!) African Father but his WHITE Grandfather?! And for that fact his White Grandmother?! That's one thing I like about Europe vs. America - this one drop rule billshit doesn't really apply there. I've never understood it.

I don't understand why people are calling this guy "black" when he was raised by his white grandfather who served in the Army in WWII and his white mother. The guy is black AND white. I seriously doubt he is a secret "whites hater" given his background.

And for the record, I gave money to Mike Huckabee because I respect someone who says what he believes even if it isn't popular with the far left or some in the far right for that matter. I think it's very disrespectful to Obama's veteran Grandfather all the accusations that are being thrown his way as if the good upbringing he gave the guy (his grandson) doesn't matter at all.

I've been wanting to yell that at the people at Fox for a long time! And since I am venting, since Mike didn't win my next choice IS Obama. However, if Clinton gets the nomination I will hop a plane from coast to coast just so I can vote for McCain twice!!

But any opinion that is not your own is instantly from a flaming thoughtless liberal? How do you rate? Every time anyone posts anything that is pro liberal it is met with hateful backlash from you.

I will try to change my ways. How about this:

I respect your choice in Obama young man but I will have to warn you that he will run this nation to the ground with his social programs. He will also cut our military to the point we will no longer have a deterent against China and Russia. Oh by the way do you know that he and his wife support a racist biggot, not only with thousands of dollars but with their attendance to his church for the last 20 years.

china and russia are not mad at us go OBAMA these countries hate bush

You are correct. China and Russia don't "hate" us. It is a little more complex than them hating us. Japan didn't hate us. They attacked us to try to take away our ability to defend southeast Asia. They needed the oil and made a move.

Hmm..You do know that we have swore to protect Tawain? against China? Why do you think China is expanding thier military and conducting huge amphibious military exercises recently. Who's shore are they preparing to land on and when they do we will have to defend.

I really don't want to write a book but have you heard Putin speak lately. Russia needs the trade and oil from South America and the Middle East and won't stand for us fuckin that up for them.

It boils down to trade, oil and land. Just like it has for a long time. Nothing to do with hate. Obama doesnt understand this. He is worried about getting more money to Africa and spending triillions on welfare. He is naive to think these other countries will hold our hand and sing songs because we are nice to them. Britain,France,Israel,Austrialia,Canada maybe Germany are the only countries that we don't have to worry about. The rest would sit by and watch us crumble.

EDIT: What does Bush have to do with anything. He isn't running for office

@ Popeye,
Were you aware that we actually import more oil from Nigeria than we do from Kuwait? Yes, Nigeria is actually our 4th largest supplier of oil (and spam mail, lol...j/k). So more Aid to Africa wouldn't be so bad. Also, you talk about Obama supporting welfare. Have you googled his list of supporters? They are actually among the world's most successful business people. Thus, I don't we is a flaming commie. As I mentioned before, I gave money to Huckabee so I am pretty open minded politically. I'm not trying to change your mind about Obama, but you really seem to have something emotional against the guy. Lastly, a bunch of poor folks running around with no jobs won't exactly support stability at home will it? So, helping working class folks is good for you and I.

And since I am venting, since Mike didn't win my next choice IS Obama. However, if Clinton gets the nomination I will hop a plane from coast to coast just so I can vote for McCain twice!!

haha. Thats pretty much how I feel. I liked Clinton in the beginning, holy shit was I wrong.

Obama > McCain > Clinton twins
