I have a four-letter domain Google says is a PR2 but shows zero backlinks when using the 'link:' search. How can that be? Is it somehow because my site shows up above all the .gov sites for the same term in the SERPs?

they deliberately dont show you accurate backlink data in google, yahoo does. google uses their internal data which you'll never see.

Yeah the discrepancy between google's accuracy with finding inbound links and yahoo's is massive.
