No Excuses 3 - Official Thread

Mike,

Thanks for today's webinar. Great information, learned a lot about free traffic.

carl, pm smaxxor and he'll get his am to you.

I did today, but if the guy who is supposed to be my AM doesn't respond to my emails during the sign up process the long term relationship doesn't look good. :eek7:

I'm just going to get started using my NeverBlue account and if that means I can't be in the contest then so be it.

SEO_Mike. In the choosing a niche video. you started to get into discussing content on google instead of search. I'm hoping you will get to touch more on this shortly. Most of the suggestions I've noticed from other people have been around search only. I know the text ads for search are targeted differently then content, but I don't know what or why.

webinar was great! funny thing, i was using squidoo long time ago and my problem was that my lens looked like most of those acai lenses - screaming "ADVERT".

my connection broke somewhere around second question from the same guy so I didn't manage to connect again, but i learned something new - "Do a research on your niche. Don't just c/p your aff link saying this site is great"

Thanks Mike! Hope I'll be around my PC on Friday

Hi all:

The post above talking about budget and burning $100-$500 in a few hours 'testing' keywords, is a scary scenario.

Correct me if I am wrong, but in order to run a campaign, in particular, the first campaign, we need a budget to sustain a min of 45 days. This calc is based on a network's net 15 payment terms. After the first cycle, we can expect to get paid each 30 cycle.

Another factor to consider is the 'fail' factor. Not all campaigns will produce a profit. So, do we need to budget for one or several failed campaigns before we find our rhythm?

So, for us noobs, what kind of budget might we need to run our first campaign?

It's going to take money to finance your learning curve. The less money you have at any point, the longer it's going to take you to get the experience. There are always exceptions to this rule, but in general, you are not going to strike it rich on your first attempt.

If you hit a great performing ad, and your money is tied up in the network, you can contact your AM, and see about getting an early pay out. Generally speaking, the networks don't want to send out $10 checks every week.

Credit cards will be your friend. In this business, things move fast. The idea, is to split test, and refine until you get something working well. Your ROI is up, and you are making good money. At that point, you carefully need to dip into you credit card, so you can capitalize on your work, before the market disappears. I know it might be a tough pill to swallow, but that's how it works. Google will also afford you a budget once you establish some history ( they might even right off the bat, I'm not sure.) This way, you can push the ads that are working, and then pay them after you get your check from your network.

As for money necessary. Realistically, it's probably going to be >$1500 before you start to get the hang of it. Please prove me wrong here, and then share how you did it. I'm personally have about $2000 into ads, and made about $1100 so far. Leaving my education currently at $900, and I still can't spot a great deal :(

I hear you man, but the trick is less in finding a 'great deal' and more in finding 'great traffic'. If you are really careful in how tightly you target an ad to commercially interested traffic, and are able to market your lander directly to that small demographic, then it becomes much harder to lose money with every ppc campaign.

that said, I'm still in the red myself, so I'll just shut the fuck up.

Maybe this should be a different thread...But in my own No Excuses efforts, I've got a test campaign set up and tracking in 202. I'm seeing a bunch of hits under Spy view from the same IP addresses (marked red, as in "warning!" or something). Should I go ahead and block these IPs via an htaccess file?

Malp, personally I'd not be too block happy. I've had conversions from someone who'd browsed my lp about 10 times, must have bookmarked it then eventually bought about 3 days later.

Difficult to call i think but I've not been blocking any specific IP's.

Where are they coming from. If it's a $5 keyword from google. I'd ban. if it's a free hit, who cares.

Do a whois on the ip. It might be a spy bot. I had that happen with gcdetective and it messed up my stats

quick q about lp's

in one of the videos you looked at a bunch of weight loss blogs, and were like ah sweet this time it's 'donna' from (xyz)...

If I wanted to create a LP like that, how would I get pictures? Currently the only way I can think of is just rip em off of someone else. I don't necessarily feel that's the right or wrong thing to do.. but I'm not that horrible a coder, if it takes only slightly more time to put up my own page (modeled after theirs :)) I might as well do that. And graphics are one thing - harder, but i have a friend who owes me a favor - but where the f does one get before->after photos and not get into deep shit if the person finds out?

A lot of people use an image service such as Stock Photography: Search Royalty Free Images & Photos.

Adwords voucher

I have an extra Adwords Voucher for sale or barter. It will credit your Adwords account with $25. You can use it within two weeks of signing up for a new adwords account. I already used one, so I can use it.
I'm a total noob, so I need anything that can help me (software, discounts, whatever). If you have something to trade send me a PM.

This is great, but at the same time not so great. NE3 has grown WAY beyond what I thought it would, so I apologize it's taking longer than expected to get everything up and launched.

I've got everyone that signed up in a spreadsheet and just need to sort through to find out who needs hosting and domains. My goal is to get that taken care of this weekend.

Don't forget, this afternoon is the Q&A session. All you need is a phone or mic / speakers and you can participate.

Ok so LP question

Ok so the desire to get into AM for me was my extensive experience in media. I have worked for two of the three major search engines and have another 5 years in non-traditional media. I am pumped to compete in NE3 the videos are great keep them coming!

In media buying/PPC I give myself an A I have managed many.

When it comes to design I give myself an F-. I can barely figure out wordpress (slight exaggeration). I am learning slowly but surely signed up for a college class for some handhold. So I am sure I will come around.

What are your thoughts about hiring someone to build LPs and can you offer any advice about the process. What to expect etc...
