so some of you already know that I own No Uptime Hosting - Guaranteed server downtime!

and one of the pages on the site is the list of bad hosts, where people submit & vote on the hosts they like least

just now I got this email from a guy complaining (i.e. requesting) to get his host removed from the list..

here's his email:
I am emailing in regards to your site nouptime.com and its worst host section. My sites URL (name here) is here in a false and demeaning manner. I would like for it to be taken off the site. It appears in Google searches among others in the results section. In an attempt to be diplomatic about this I am contacting you directly. Please feel free to contact me via email. If you would like we can setup a time to speak on the phone. I hope we can come to an agreement on this matter.

so, what should I do? see poll above

That dude can't do shit about it. Free speech man. Unless you really are making false accusations. Otherwise, I'd tell him to go fuck himself.

Well, I would let him post a rebuttal if he's not a total jerk, that way you keep everyone happy. Just my 2 cents.

publish his message (not sure if this would cause problems, in case just blank his URL) and below the email put
"no need to say he's still in the list"
email us if you want your message here

btw if a small fish with a fraction of clients of the others managed to get in this list his service has to be the next level shit!

If he's up there because people voted his hosting as shit, then fuck him. As long as you're not manipulating the results, then it's just a result of what other people's experiences have been.

Oh wait, I see you have been manipulating the results...You have nouptime.com as number one. Offer to change places with him. Give his site number one ;)

/edit/ just cast my vost for Dreamhost. I hate those fucker's with a passion.

Let him call you on his own dime, have his say... then tell him that in order to be removed, he needs to improve his services enough to be "voted down".

There ya go... or tell him to vote for others to bump his site off the list then you keep putting it back on top.

lol I love some of these suggestions.. "reverse advertising" ahah :)

btw Mike, I never manipulate the results..I only forced nouptime.com to the top as a joke

I guess the biggest question mark is - is the review completely legitimate? If so, than it's not defamation of character and he's really got no legs to stand on. Its the same as a dellsucks.com kind of site.

With that in mind, I voted for tell the guy to fuck off politely. Also, don't try to "reverse advertise"... The second that you tell him he can buy his way off the list he can probably sue you (based on something like "see this guy is trying to blackmail me").

It's not like you're obligated to do anything, but I think you should at least hear him out. If he's on the list because one doucher who doesn't like him or his business (competition maybe?) voted for him then I think he is perfectly justified in asking you nicely to remove him. It's not like he sent you a court order and started blowing smoke.

I actually just got sued for having something similar on my site.

The suit is total fucking bullshit (pm me if you want to know more) and it's starting to get kind of expensive.

My suggestion if you don't already have it on there, is to put a caveat that you don't research ANY complaint for validity.

Not saying that will save your ass forever, but it's a good start.
