I gotta tell ya, just relax.
I said I had faith in innovation taking care of the issue into the future. You can call that a logical fallacy, but I trust the market to bring a solution. So all your knowledge of "tight oil" (which makes me believe you are on the right forum) is irrelevant. My reliance on future innovation surrenders to your point and builds a new one. So why the argumentative post?
I also have to wonder if you really believe that I think that the West is purposely depleting other nations in order to use our own supply as a future monopoly. Really? That's what triggered you into making an argument for why the West will never be able to produce enough for the world?
Relax.
I thought about trolling you more about the seriousness of the energy issue in our time, but I am simply not as good at it as the rest of the WF membership.
I'm pretty relaxed, man. I just get a little worked up around this issue, and others, that are vitally important, yet generally defined by ignorance and magical thinking.
The logical fallacy I was referring to was the strawman ("so why try?") you put forth, not the likely success of innovation in increasing future oil production.
If you would care to do some research on the current state of oil reserves, how technological innovation has effected oil production in the past, and how it's likely to in the future, I think you might change your views somewhat. Or maybe not. Either way, I would invite you to do so, since it's quite fascinating stuff, not to mention, like, super important and shit.
Speculation about what technology might do, maybe, without basis in physical reality, is magical thinking, plain and simple.
If I misinterpreted your point about the West and monopoly, you might understand why if you re-read what you said, specifically "Little do they know that the reason we do not drill much is because we are depleting their supply of oil first and then the West will have the monopoly."
Anywho, thank you for graciously refraining from trolling me further. I'm very sensitive and overly literal at times. But that's only because I care.
Have a lovely day.
