Crap!

I bought a new battery this morning, but .. NADA.

Resetting the CMOS the loooooooooooong way works, the computer runs fine. Surfing, diagnostics, all is well. SO we can safely assume that the PSU, the RAM and the grafx card are fine.

As soon as you turn it off, dead in the water again.

FUCK!

I have posted over in the ASUS boards now, but they have a very active "blame the consumer" culture - so we will have to see what happens.

Sounds like replacing it would be much less of a hassle then fixing it. Won't take more then 30min, 1h tops and then you're up and running again and get some campaings up instead.

I know. I am just pissed. This is 150+ I did not want to spend - yeah, I got the money, but shit.

It is still under warranty, but that means, that I will get a fucking replacement in a month or so, when I already bought a new mainboard for the computer to keep it running.

So then I can sell it on ebay (or ricardo here in CH) for a fucking loss.

Out of luck any way.

As I said, I am pissed.

... and not looking forward to the work of actually replacing a frigging motherboard.

Just the time this thread too to write, etc. had probably a lot more opportunity cost then it would have been just to replace the thing right away :xmas-smiley-016:

Actually, no - opening hours in Switzerland are restricted, so there was no way of getting a mainboard sooner.

Also, I do not like to throw away money. Replacing the battery could have solved the problem for 4.5$ instead of 150$

Also, I do like to rant and rave, but I am a pretty laid back person. This has its upsides as well. I learned a little about mainboard diagnostics (I am an old hand at IT, so I learned a little bit), got to rummage around the inside of a computer and all that...

And to end this, I also had access to my wife's laptop, so not much opportunity lost but a bit of design I have to do.

:D
