Official GOP debate thread

Are you trolling? I never (and RP) never said building a wall wouldn't work. But is it the best solution? Is it worth spending billions upon billions of dollars to construct a wall when there are other more sensible solutions?

It would be a one-time cost and in return we would have a beautiful big asset that would last theoretically for decades. We spend over 3 TRILLION dollars a year; this is virtually the only thing(besides essential services and the military) that I actually think is a good use of tax dollars.

Not to mention the nation could rest for just one second knowing the flow had been substantially slowed, if not stopped. It's a beautiful solution.

Every other solution is temporary and can be reversed at any time. Don't you understand why the Democrats are terrified of it? Their goal is to increase the number of illegal aliens here, give them amnesty, bring in all their extended families, and boom just like that we are a one-party dominated country.

Building a wall stops all that. Suddenly, you're only dealing with the illegals here, who you can decide what to do with. You know that the invasion isn't continuing. The ranchers in Texas aren't dealing with violence. The citizens in the border states aren't being overrun. It's the most obvious solution and such a beautifully simplistic one. Do you think the Chinese were stupid when they built their Great Wall? That thing still exists.

But because RP is against it, his acolytes are against it, and so the charade continues...

I support RP - but would be cool with building a wall as long as EVERYTHING is put in the open and it's what a majority of the VOTING legal population wants. After all, this won't be a cheap or "one time" project. My kids will deal with the after affects for their entire lives.

Do YOU really think it makes sense to build the great freaking wall of china on a border the size and scope needed? A chain link fence isn't going to cut it.

Who would man it? Our military is stretched pretty damn thin. I personally know over a dozen national guardsman who are deployed at the moment. So do you think we should expand border patrol to the extent needed to really police the wall? Either way it's not a one time expense. It's a drastically high initial cost with increasing "salary" and benefit costs every year. Don't forget the pensions that my kids will be paying for to the hundreds of thousands of border patrol agents.

Who would build it? First dibs would go to one the giant companies that makes bank from all the wars we've got going on atm. MOST of the politicians lobbying for it that aren't just doing it for sound bites are probably in some corporations pocket.

Besides we aren't Russia, or Israel. I don't want my country fenced. While I get what RP said tonight, I'm a nerd and have read enough to know that I don't want a fence locking me in. While it made RP seem 'crazy' and it's what you haters love to lock onto. It makes sense.

Our government IS more tyrannical than any point in our history (excluding WW2 I'd say). To think that there isn't a situation you can imagine where that fence does keep your ass in when you want to leave is just sticking your head in the sand.

Or maybe it won't affect you. But throw yourself 50 years into the future. Do you think if we don't at some point make a stand (and a big one) to restore our constitution that your kids won't fear that fence?

A bunch of stupid shit about how the fence would solve all our immigrant problems...
Without changing the laws allowing corporations to bring in all the workers they want, there is NOTHING that the fence would stop. Nada. El Zilcho.

What you're suggesting is literally building a trillion dollar monstrocity (out of my fucking tax money!) from gulf to pacific but skipping the hundreds of little gaps where roads all pass through it.

At those points your plan doesn't do shit, a thousand mexicans a day are fully going to get through in comfortable busses taken to their new comfy lives all over the country to fuel backwater factories.

Why the FUCK would you want to spend that trillion dollars with all that still going on???

The only one who would benefit from a giant wall would be Halliburton, just like they did in Iraq and the Gulf Oil spill

Bush Signs Bill Authorizing 700-Mile Fence for Border

They've built fences along places known for crossings, but they just get over the top or tunnel underneath. Compared to a full wall with Mexico, the Berlin wall and walls in Israel are MUCH smaller, which made/makes it much easier to also have troops patrolling large portions of them.

back in the day, before the ACLU, settlers would just shoot invaders.

Ron Paul has my vote. After seeing how much steam he has I'm not going to be one of those people to still say he's unelectable.

Obama's economy is DOOMED. Maybe he's secretly long on Gold and just sandbagging the nation.

Ha - love that poll. RP is beating the snot out of them but Romney's bar is the same length as his with 1/2 the votes.

This particular favoritism is mathematically provable.

All you have to do is take those numbers, put them in a fair polling app, and compare the two to see how much favoritism MSNBC is giving to which candidate.

Then send your comparison to Jon Stewart, YT's Cenq, and the rest of the fair-minded press. -They'd likely love to embarrass msnbc no doubt!

What is this bullshit about a wall at the mexico border being an unrealistic idea? (It would be mostly be a fence, btw, as the israeli "wall" is too.) The length of the US mexican border is 2000km the length of the israeli wall will be 760km when finished. Let's compare some ratios:

US border vs Israeli border length: 2000/760=2.63
US GDP vs Israeli GDP (billions): 14k/200=72.68
US population vs Israeli population: 309/7.28=42.4
US defense spending vs Israeli defense spending (billions): 500/10=49.15

The argument that the projects impossible is the kind of pernicious quasi rational crap the MSN feeds people. The iranians are building a 800km long wall. (To keep out drug smugglers, terrorists and illegal immigrants from pakistan.)

New immigration policy:
Fuck a wall, just lay down minefields. If someone makes it across, they earned it.

But srsly, using drones would be more effective, especially if they can detect tunnels and caravans.
