Announcers stated the US Ralph Lauren suits were made in China, what isn't?

Pretty sweet closing by Pink Floyd, though.

The opening ceremony = fail. China's was WAY better imho.

I agree. The stupid social media love story was so lame.

I do like that they didn't take centuries when each nation walked out. Thought it was kind of lame that almost everybody on the American team had a cell phone out though.

Ceremony was absolute bullshit. Too much self indulgence, arrogance and no substance.

I loved it. It was british through and through. I was concerned that it was just going to be us sucking up to the world and doing some meaningless bullshit. We spend so much time going on about how multicultural we are and so much of our heritage and britishness is lost each year, that it was great to see an arrogant piece of self indulgence.

So far as displays go, China's was more impressive yes, although it lacked heart and history IMO. It was pretty much them saying look how big our penis is.

Agree that the social media crap shouldn't have been placed.

I thought what they did with the queen arriving by helicopter was cool, and Rowan Atkinson was epic.

I can imagine lots of people worldwide watching it thinking "what the fuck is this?" though, especially people not aware of our history.

Only watched part of it before becoming overwhelmingly annoyed that my tax money was being spent on bread and circuses. I have no problem with enormous jingoistic extravangazas, just being forced to pay for them.

The NHS bit was lul-worthy. WTF was that about? Two people in each bed? That about sums the NHS up these days.

Also I enjoyed this MP destroying his career on twitter by calling the ceremony "multi-cultural crap"

It was particularly sweet as he went to the same school I did, and he was an arrogant little prick then too.

The giant NHS made me laugh big time. Not sure that was the intended effect.

This sorta stuff helps the economy though, so many people in London spending money on hotels, local shops, etc that never would have.

Whether the benefits outweigh the costs though, hard to tell.

I don't think they will. Costs aside, the amount of disruption is huge. I've got several projects basically on hold for two weeks because I can't get into London to meet with clients.
