Online Ad Spending Is Slowing? WF members agree?

This is primarily impacting the big brand advertisers; minimal effect on all the little advertisers. That being said, we should be seeing an economic downturn in the next year or two, which could weaken the market. Its to hard to really know what stage of the business cycle we are in because of the sheer quantity of variables at play here from housing to war spending.

On the positive side, internet advertising generally has a much higher ROI than other mediums. This could only hasten the move from old media as more companies demand accountability from their marketing departments.

My take on it is that if you have high profit margins you have zero to worry about. For publicly traded companies, including Google, a slowdown in growth (which is really what this is, not an actual decrease in spending) can have a compounded effect on the stock price because of how heavy it is tied to speculation.

Ad spending online is NOT slowing down. I'm sorry, but I totally disagree with Forbes on this one. A lot of these analysts are just playing the safe card and assuming things without actually being in the industry.

There are a ton of new features being rolled out by so many companies over the next few months, and that right there will only increase ad spending online. Google is doing video ads, and that right there is in it's infancy so far. Can you imagine what NFL.com will command for Google video ads on their site during the Super Bowl? Probably $50k-$150k for a 10 second spot!

It probably affects yahoo more because they go after the big branding advertisers. But then again, Yahoo constantly pisses me off when it comes to them rejecting keywords and my ads, so fuck em. I hope their stock crash and burns.

Yahoo, MSN, Google, AdBrite and tons others are all revamping their spaces and what they can offer. You'll see some big launches over the next few months and as late as a year. I've been hearing about secret new shit going on for a while now.

Yeah, I'll admit, it is an exciting time with the ad networks (even if I don't have much confidence in yahoo).

I really need to clone myself a couple times just so I can dedicate enough time to learn all the different systems and get my campaigns on all of them.

The Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers released a separate report Monday that said U.S. Internet ad revenues during the first half of 2006 totaled $7.9 billion, up 37% from the same period last year.
The north american auto market is in the shitter so of course they will lower ad spending across the board. The above quote shows the big picture without putting yahoo under the microscope and it's positive. Reporters tend to check very few sources. (how about adwords? anything 2nd tier?) More proof that journalism is all about finding bad news and using info that falls in their laps.
