You are forgetting that you get $2345 per day for posting them linkz on the googles
Yeah, I kind of think a set 20% for normal service is bullshit, kind of like the thing about how an engagement ring is "supposed" to cost three months salary, etc. Then again, I think the idea that a tip should be a percentage of your bill is bullshit too since the size of the bill isn't really going to be linearly proportional to the amount of work the guy or girl has to do. I think it makes more sense to pay a set amount per person eating, or something like that.i consider normal service the same as bad service if that helps.
bringing me the correct drink, refilling it when i ask, taking my order, bringing me the correct order, and then bringing me my bill is all expected. if you do only that then I feel it was normal or average, nothing great about that and i lump that into bad service.
the only way it can get worse is bringing me the wrong order, wrong drink, or not refilling my drink and in ANY of those situations I am asking you to change it to make it right which is to be expected when I dont get what i am paying for. If you keep bring me the wrong thing, then i am going to keep asking for the correct thing. when you do bring me the correct thing, then now your at the "normal" and "average" level again as that is all expected from you anyways.
I tip well. Know why? Yeah part of it is I know they don't make shit so I help cover them for that. Also if I'm at a place a few times as a good tipper suddenly my steak comes out quicker, my food is cooked better and lo and behold my mixed drinks are suddenly 99% alcohol instead of the normal watered down profit making mix they normally sell.
haha, i that was laterHaven't you ever heard of selling weed ?
For one, if your in school your prob. not gonna find ANY good jobs, if your in a small town then its the same as well. Just having 1 of those means your not gonna make very much in general and you had both. However, just because you went to that school or stayed in that town and took the easiest job you could ( not meaning easy that you didnt do work, but I mean easy for your situation ) doesn't mean I should know subsidize you for it when I eat or drink in your business.

I understand what you're saying, and I didn't keep either of those jobs for more than a year. By my senior year of college I was working 12+ hour days at 2 jobs and had already started doing various things online as well.
That being said, I made $2.13 an hour waiting tables before tips. I was working 20-25 hours a week, so the $50 I made basically covered taxes. You're not subsidizing the waiter when you eat. You are paying for good service. It really comes with the territory. It's not included in the price of the food at most place. I promise you, if waiters were paid $15/hour in the US, your steak is going to cost you a lot more.
With the pizza delivery job, I relied on tips to help off shoot the cost of gas, and this was when gas was $1.50/gallon. I have no idea how these guys can profit now.
That's part of the reason I don't mind tipping now. I usually only leave 15-20%, but I know that it's part of the meal. If they do a horrible job i leave 15% or a little less. If they do a great job they get the full 20%. If the service is exceptionally bad, I don't go back.
I can tell you though, since I work exclusively online and I order takeout A LOT from the same few restaurants they arrive at my door FAST and with a smile. Also, when I go down the street to my favorite bar, i get waited on fast and my drinks are strong. It's common sense really.
It's worse than you think in those states where they make 2.13 an hour. They are actually 'taxed' on 7 percent of their total checks for the shift.
Fuck the cheapskates are coming out of the woodworks.
As has been said earlier
A-Dont fuck with people that make your food
B-If you are too cheap to tip, cook your own damn food
C-It's just money. You can't take it with you when you die...you are making someone's entire DAY(maybe week) by leaving a nice tip and you will get great service the next time you come.
What are you gonna do with that extra few bucks that is so god damn important? Scale up to 3 ply toilet paper? Enjoy super unleaded gas in your tank?
Bunch of self-righteous prudes up in this thread that seem to think they are "entitled" to the best service no matter how cheap they are or how shitty their attitude is towards the people working for them.
And also..who cares the service is better in Japan/Asia without tipping? Cigarettes are also $2 a pack there..so it is much cheaper for the servers to smoke to deal with the stress caused by your lousy attitude and sense of entitlement.
BS, tbh. There's always a job available, just because the pay doesn't fit what someone personally wants, that's their problem, imo.^^^
Boss, I am not defending the people that posted on the tumblr site and bitched and complained and outed the cheap tippers.
Nor do I disagree wholeheartedly with any of the points you are making.
However, really read through this thread and look at some of the comments and opinions that are pointed out. It's depressing to know people are so callous and cheap...and tend to have this "though peasants dont deserve my monies" attitude.
LOTSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS of people CANNOT just up and get a different job. Many single mothers need the shift work that only a restaurant can provide and the flexible hours and so on..just as one example.
Maybe where I go out to eat is different, but I have the same servers, managers, hostesses all the time. A lot of non-franchise restaurants are the same as far as I have seen. So maybe try out your local hot-spot, a mom and pop diner, or even an all out 5 star restaurant and you will see the same employees at the same times more often?
I only see the revolving door of staff at places like applebees, swiss chalet, mcdonalds etc etc.
Restaurant down the street is the same waitress each and every time we eat there. She has 4 kids, works the night shift that starts once her husband gets home from work...and practically sweats all night running as fast as she can to get food ready and served piping hot.

I.e.
My local fish & chip shop sometimes looks for potato peelers, at half minimum wage. Do they get tips? hell no.
Article writing. People will always need articles. When I used to need money for stuff, I wrote articles for people on digitalpoint, $5 for 500 words.
Was it tiring? Yes.
Was it boring? Yes.
Was the pay total shit? Fuck yes.
Did I expect tips? No way.

Tip, assholes. Its a social norm. You're probably experiencing some cognitive dissonance if you're trying to be a baller yet complaining about a few more bucks for a meal.
I commend this guy because he is ballsy and has the whole angsty "I'm fed up with this bullshit" take on the world. We need more people like him.
