I was using excel to track my personal fiances, but it's becoming a clusterfuck.

So now I'm looking for a web based finance tracking app.

Since Wickedfire is all about the green, what better place to ask for recommendations.

I've had a quick look at toshl.com which seems ok.

What are people using to track their fiances, any recommendations on must have web based apps?

I use Quicken like a dinosaur cause i hate storing my personal shit on the 'cloud' for someone to sell off later or get hacked, sabotaged, etc.

Mint is ok ..

Yodlee Moneycenter is pretty good if you want complete control .. they're actually the platform behind Mint.

Used to be, before Mint was bought by Intuit. They haven't been partnered with Yodlee for 4 years now...

Yodlee no longer powers Mint.com's data aggregation tools - Dec. 2, 2010

Mint looks really nice, but I'm not an American so I'm SOL. Thanks though.

Can't remember where you are, but Mint works in Canada too.

Have you looked at YNAB Personal Budget Software - Finance Software for Windows & Mac?

Self hosted (though you can synch your data in the cloud for access on multiple devices) and gets pretty good reviews.

These guys look promising too https://www.pocketsmith.com/

They got an endorsement from Xero when Xero discontinued their personal finances product.

Thanks, looks good trying it out now.

I started using toshl.com which is nice, but basic. They are meant to be releasing v2 which looks more like pocketsmith, but there is no ETA on that.

I'll probably keep using toshl and pocketsmith for now, just to get a feel for which one is better.

A quick update for anyone who's interested.

Pocketsmith is severely broken. It can't add up, it was out by $400 after importing my bank statement.

I tried for about an hour to grapple with their mind boggling UX and eventually realized that it wasn't tracking my balance properly and was only showing $0 (this is not related to the miscalculation of $400).

I get the process, you import your accounts, you create a budget, you also create a category and assign an expense to that category which is linked to the budget, which is then deducted from the total budget amount.

But it doesn't work, I'm not sure if they have some backend process that fires once a day or something that updates this, but fuck me if I can figure what the problem is or care at this point.

I don't want to have to take a university course in Economics to figure this shit out, hell my clusterfuck of an excel spreadsheet was better than this.

Their whole system leaves me with an uneasy feeling about how the back end works. I can only guess, but it feels like its hobbled together spaghetti code.

I could be wrong (and I probably am) but that's the feeling I get.

Anywhoo thanks for all the suggestions, I appreciate it.
