Pinterest manipulates outbound URLs to make money

Affiliate Links: Pinterest's Not So Controversial Business Model | Inc.com

Now, I may be misinformed or do not fully understand all of this, but here is what I have gathered:

- If you link from a merchant's website, say amazon, pinterest uses skimlinks, or something similar to inject/manipulate the URL to reflect their affiliate URLs.

What would happen if the link is already an affiliate link? Does your affiliate ID get overwritten with Pinterest's?

I haven't done anything with Pinterest yet, but sitting here doing research on the topic today I stumbled across this article.
