Places to work from (apart from home)?

There's a ton of ways to work outside of your work or home. If you have a phone with tethering, or a wireless card to plug into your laptop, you're good to go.

Take a trip to a park, work on a bench like Neckbeard and checkout the babes jogging.

Get out a mountain bike and a backpack holding your computer stuff and ride some trails, then drop a blanket and some food and work while overlooking a river or waterfall.

The possibilities are endless.

Once I finish my master's in May, I plan on backpacking Europe doing this for a couple months. Minus the suit saying, "Rob me." If anyone wants to join me, let me know. I don't have it all planned out yet, was going to wait until March or so to see where my other ventures are at that point.
 


I have a wife and kids. So I have an excuse for not being able to get shit done at home. If you don't have those things, consider yourself fortunate. You should have an easy time getting shit done at home.

As far as some of the issues/objections: I sleep in a bed in a bedroom. I have one of those kitchen things where I store and prepare food. So I don't sleep or eat where I work. I have a basement office and 2 other desktops and 3 laptops in operation. So I can work from wherever.

If you really need to get out to work, a lot of options have been mentioned. Personally I don't feel comfortable working on Gay Webmaster work while people are looking over my shoulder at Starbucks.

I prefer the alternative- which is when I want to get out of the house to do something, I just go out and fucking do something. Not "work." If I want to go to the park or ride a bike or go to a concert or lunch or whatever the fuck, I just go. Because I am my own fucking boss. I work on my schedule/terms, so I can have a fucking life. I don't have to take the work with me, and I don't have to have co-workers to have a social life or something to keep me entertained. That would be pretty fucking sad and a waste of too many hours/years of my life.
 
I can't get serious work done in public place. Not one set of boobs can pass within sight without my concentration wandering. Office water cooler stories get in the way of my task list. Kids and wife know to leave me alone while in the office caves at homes.

I HAVE to have a place to pace. Best thinking while pacing and driving. Hard to pace furiously in Starbucks or past cubicles.

Most have a starbucks inside and they usually only build them near malls or major shopping centers so you get a good choice of food for lunch and stuff to do if you need a break. Just watch out for amway/pyramid scam zombies, that is their natural breeding grounds.
 
I hear beachhouses in the Phillipines are really nice - and the ladies love north americans.

I also hear they work for $3-$5/hr, and setting up an empire there for ~30 full time workers for 11k/mth to do your dirty gay webmaster work will make you a lot of money, while you enjoy the beach.

Got an guy from Indonesia working for me for 3.5$ an hour, he is a manager at another company also, highly educated, self motivated and smart. Really happy I found him, try to keep him happy too with bonuses and shit. Odesk is definetly a good place to hire.

I'll look into small offices in Montreal, they actually have a HUUGE building which used to be Nortel's warehouse and heard offices are dirt cheap there. Keep y'all posted
 
I rent office space, as I sometimes find it difficult to get shit done at home. Hit starbucks sometimes for a change of pace, but there are too many chicks there and it distracts me. I would say I work 70% office, 20 home and 10 coffe shops.
 
In Japan there's a high concentration of hot girls at McDonalds and Starbucks. When I'm in the mood for girls like photo 1, it's McDonalds day (I only buy coffee). When I'm in the mood for girls like photo 2, it's Starbucks day.

i agree working from a cafe is a major distraction especially if you live in asia. there is so much eye candy it can rot your eyes. best to hire some ugly assistants if you need focus and do the deed from home. works for me.

I only work at coffee shops or McDonalds when I'm doing stuff like running Scrapebox or SEnuke where's lots of down time when I'm just sitting there and can chat with the girls next to me. Then I can show them the screen and explain what automation is and they're always blown away that I'm such a genius that I can make software do my work for me. I like to open Magic Article Rewriter and throw some text in it and then let the girls click the autospin button, so when all the synonyms pop up they freak out like some miracle just happened. :D

Nerd pickup for the win. But when I need real focus I stay at home.
 
Library.

But I'm still in school, and our library is fucking dope. There's WiFi, glass rooms with "0101010110001100101010" printed into the glass and it's open 24/7. Plus, my school is full of hot ass girls to look at when you need a break.

I'm in Osaka, for 2 months next year so that's good to know... fukin' love that country, just got back from a 2 week trip
