Horrible story, I personally have seen this story too many times.
The worst was when a friend of mine from middle school whom I graduated with five years ago hit an old woman coming back from volunteering. He was so overtaken with grief for what he had done, he was screaming when he woke up in the hospital, when the time came for his hearing he begged the judge to give him the maximum sentence/penalty possible.
He was such a good person, had so much talent and potential, but made a bad decision and will regret it for the rest of his life.
My condolences.
