And just like in Brave New World, the government embraced the effects of the mind-numbing Soma. What better way to keep your citizens in check than to keep them passive and high all the time...?

Smoke up motherfuckers, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought it was the other way around? The reason the US hates weed so much compared to other Western countries is because its proven to decompartmentalize the brain? And they don't like that. They like the brain compartmentalized, so you can't think clearly or view the big picture at once.

Then I figured these latest legalization initiatives are simply because the government ran out of money. You have cities all over the US doing crazy things like unpaving roads, or turning off street lights to save a few bucks. Not only does weed legalization save a good chunk of money, it also generates some decent tax revenue.

I live in Denver and lived in Boulder for a while after legalization. I have never heard of anyone being blood tested or any kind of crazy police state business going on in Colorado. It is simply easier to get pot. I was stopped by the cops on the 4th because we were shooting off fireworks and when they asked if we had any drugs or weapons my buddy said, "I have a few grams of pot in my pocket" and they didn't even bother with it, just sent us on our way with a warning about the fireworks.

There aren't any negatives in this state as a result of legalization. Prices have come down as more shops have opened up, taxes have gone to schools and infrastructure, and police seem to give absolutely zero fucks about pot now.

And here i thought it was because everybody is so stupid and underneath your intellectual level (in your mind at least). I guess you do learn something new every day.

Nah, you were right the first time. And it's not just in his head, lol.

Wrap your head around that one, toolbag.

It breaks down like this:

Non-pot smokers do not want it legalized.
Pot smokers want it to be legal.
Ex-pot smokers do not care.

That's a pretty contrasted statement. Not everyone who gets high is a passive zombie.

And I would argue that other facets of our culture would be more to blame for something like that.

Even if it's now becoming a regulated substance, that's still better than it being regulated in a way that cages up our non-violent citizens for years.

Recreational use in adults is, in most cases, less harmful than alcohol.

I will say that in the San Francisco area, marijuana is very potent and the cannabis dispensaries offer that high % hash. It's not very good for developing brains, such as a 16 year old kid in high school.

My dad has never even smoked cigarettes, prior to retiring, he was a doctor, and senior partner at his practice. He is for the legalisation of all drugs, weed included.

All I see there is a nice proof of concept.

They have a test now for whether or not you're high? How does that work?

I always thought it was impossible? You can't tell if someone is stoned on not like you can with a breathalyzer. Well, you can tell if someone is stoned, but you can't obtain evidence about it. They can force you to take a piss test for THC, but that doesn't prove anything for the time in question when you were pulled over.

I think they test your blood, they test for active thc in your blood stream, 5 ng/ml is the limit for driving in my state. The standard piss test that you took for a job or otherwise would test for thc metabolite

Right now marijuana is regulated in the sense that it's illegal. What they're doing now by "legalizing" it is still regulation, but now they've gained a monopoly on who can sell it (like in the OP story), they can siphon off taxes with it (and thus grow even more) along with a whole slew of other rules/restrictions/regulations I'm sure are to come out..

I had not thought about it this way. It is both more freedom for the smoker and more control for the state. Maybe more freedom, although we had quite a lot of freedom already, just not legally per se. It's certainly more control for the state. I think we have all accepted this though because even though we pay tax now on it we still get a higher quality product for half the price. I'm not too upset about the tax because its state tax and I still pay less for some dank ass weed. You make a really good point about legalization vs freedom.

Letting a cop stick me with a needle, and draw my blood on the side of the highway. That definitely sounds like a good idea if I ever heard of one.

Fuck me...

They have had this for a long time, but now you don't get the urine or breath option.
