My mum's birthday is coming up, she is absolutely obsessed with weather (she understands weather patterns, froths at the mouth when the weather comes on during the news - takes daily rain measurements - that sort of shit). I'd like to get her a present, I was planning on getting her a nice seat made up to put in the garden but I realized that I got her a table and chairs last year so I probably shouldn't furniture it up two years in a row.

Anybody got any suggestions? Maybe a nice big book of high quality photos of crazy weather patterns/something that measures the wind. I've got really no idea at all - maybe one of you guys are weather nuts as well. :xmas-smiley-022:

I also live in Australia if that makes any difference.

How about a [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Ambient-Weather-WS-2080-Wireless-Station/dp/B003OSJ08S"]Home Weather Station[/ame] (Home Weather Station) or something similar?

My dad loves that shit.. I don't know if it's possible for anyone else to watch the weather channel more than him.

I bought him a rain water tank. Gets all fucking excited when it rains and fills up.

Yup...she already has a massive rain water tank. My god her excitement levels when it rains really heavily and then she checks her rain gauge and then how much water is in the tank is out of this world.

Hrm, these do look pretty sweet. Might get one for myself as well.

One of my kids friends has a dad that works at a super accurate weather forecasting service. They predict for photo shoots, commercials, sporting events and the such.

They're here in the states but I understand from talking to him that this shit is big. Maybe you can buy her a subscrpition to a service like that.

Second the suggestion for the Galileo. I have one, and it's like a steampunk lava lamp. Pretty cool.

there are some really cool vintage barometers and stuff out there that you can find if she loves that kind of stuff as well as some cool iron handmade weather vanes.

Buy her some new saucepans and an ironing board. Women love that shit.
