Hey everyone. Been on WF for some time, but never really made many posts. Anyway... I'm a search guy mostly, and never could really find a reliable tool for tracking which keywords are bringing me the leads. I tried Adwatcher, but that required placing a pixel, and then never really accurately worked for me. I ended up hiring a programmer to develop a system for me, and while that did cost me tens of thousands, it still lacks many features I'd like to see.

My close friend, with 10+ years of programming experience, approached me last week about plans to make a search engine advertising optimization tool. Unlike other tools out there it will not require the user to place a pixel on the advertiser's page. It will have a very simple GUI and spit out extremely accurate data. This will allow you to be more profitable with your current campaigns, simply telling which keywords are in the red (losing money) and green (making money), conversion %'s per keyword, and etc. This will enable you to test out new campaigns and quickly make them profitable as well.

Being an avid search engine advertiser and having used many search engine analytic and optimization programs I can assure you that this program will be the cream of the crop. Please let me know what features you would want in this program and how much you would be willing pay per month? Or would some of you prefer a one time fee? We are also considering a third option where we would charge something like $0.001 per visitor. We're expecting a price tag of about $200-$250 a month so this is probably not for people just entering the industry. However, I'm sure anybody who's been doing search for some time can understand and appreciate the value of such a program. A project like this will take months to complete, and while my buddy is willing to build it, if I can't create a big enough market for this he isn't going to waste his time.

There is also the possibility of an extra optimization tool which will consist of, among many other things, the ability to quickly eliminate keywords in the red, produce most profitable bids on keywords, and etc. It will certainly carry an extra charge per month as it takes time to build. If this was to work effectively, would you be interested in that?

Please share your opinions and get back to me, whether on the thread or through PM.

Thanks!

vapor that's only going to show you who came to your site from what words. Not what words are converting. Only way to do that is fire a pixel or pass as a subid.

I personally use XtremeConversions and it's not
ever failed me. I have heard some stories of people
not getting what they wanted out of it, but I can
tell what keywords got me a sale/lead very easily.

It allows for tracking of direct links as well.

I dunno though now that I see Smaxor's post
I am gonna have to go check it out.

Manually scrolling through a report of 5000+ keywords to see which are converting, and then calculating by hand which are profitable and which are losing money is probably not the same as having it all presented in an organized manner which allows to see your ROI on every single keyword.

if you are promoting an affiliate program i dont see how u can track kw without having subid (you cant put a pixel cause its not ur site)

what are u suggesting

I can certainly see the value in what you describe. I'm new to SEM and wouldn't be able to afford your price point at this time, but after a few days of doing my first campaign I was already trying to come up with a way to automatically calculate precise ROI at the keyword level.

I haven't used any of the current commercial offerings being talked about, or what smaxor is talking about, and have no idea whether this problem already has a solution or what it should cost.

The standard conversion tracking such as in Adwords seems like it does most of the job. Hell, with Excel I could just pull data from Adwords and add a few more fields for ROI, profit margin, $ amount of profit, % of total profit, etc. The problem is with promoting multiple products in the same campaign. Adwords can't distinguish between the types of conversion as far as I know, so accurate ROI calculation would be impossible. And of course, having to add code to the merchants's web page is a pain in the ass.

I use php to capture the keyword, adgroup etc dynamically and echo that info in the sub id.

That way I know which keyword, adgroup, search engine etc brought the conversion.

And it's free.

That's how I do it as well. The only problem is, if you pass the keyword to the affiliate program, they will know which of your keywords converts. If you don't care that they know, then fine. If you do care, you need to use a database, and assign a UID to each keyword/adgroup/search engine subid you create, and pass a numeric subid to the affiliate program. This takes more time to analyze later, but you don't have to worry about spilling the beans to anyone.
