Proposal bans data centers/ISPs from allowing non-backdoor encryption?

Why would it be completely ridiculous? That's the end goal.

Its ridiculous because its going way-backwards in security, there would be no point in a strong encryption if all a hacker or thief has to do is find the backdoor. I mean it would be pretty hard to enforce it to begin with since you'd have to be the target of a legal investigation to begin with, as internet providers are not legally allow to look at the data moving thru their system due to privacy laws.

If they allow that to happen we'd pretty much be couple of steps closer to being the next China/UAE when it comes to the internet. It would do far more harm than good.

I know most businesses and corporations and just bout anyone dealing with commerce or sensitive material is going to be opposed to this. Almost like why spend extra money on a security firm when they're going to be easily bypassed with a backdoor, like I said I don't trust the government/ISP to keep information bout said 'backdoor' under wraps. One of those easier said than done deals.

This is totally clueless.

How on earth do they think they will enforce this?

How will the ISP know if the encryption can be back-doored until they try?

All it will do is move sensitive communications (and illicit communications) out of the US.

That's what you get when you put a Communist in power... how's that change you can believe in?

See, this is just a proposal that will be announced next year. If you really want to get pissed off, but you of course won't say shit about it, remember what Bush actually did do.

Perhaps you've heard of the illegal wiretaps on U.S. citizens, or maybe the AT&T data-traps that have been/are being used? Maybe the Patriot Act is something you might have heard of?

No? Here... here's a list for you. Maybe this will jog your memory:

That was all Obama... right?

It'd be foolish to think that a single man would be behind this and president at that. Besides a president has a lot less power than you'd think, for him to actually do everything he'd want to do , he'd have to be able to control or convince congress to pass everything he wanted. So if this bill were to go thru, it'd be due to more than just him.

They should do this. Encryption should be banned (srs). I dunno what I was thinking. Pretty surprised at the contents of the calea

Maybe Obama can undo it like he closed Gitmo and got all our troops off of foreign soil? Remember? His campaign promises? He better hurry the fuck up, because he doesn't have much longer before he becomes the worst 1 term president that the country has ever seen.

Normally, shit like this wouldn't even catch my attention, but because of all the other shit that he is trying to lock down, take over, and get access to, this is definitely something that people such as myself are going to be like "whoa, what the fuck".

It was clear what Bush wanted to do. Fuck up some terrorists.

It's clear what Obama wants to do. "All of your everything belongs to us"

Fuck him.

Hmm, what's worse... "illegal" wiretaps or targeting American citizens for assassination?

But when it's a Communist, it's see no evil, hear no evil, right?

most of you can thank your boy Dubya for that cute patriot act, which, if you ever both to read, is far more scary than the "Obama ruining the world" posts mirrored on here, this one included.

There's already enough encryption software floating around out here, that you could encrypt your messages without the help of your isp. The Government asking the isp to help at that point, would be like going to the phone company and asking the operator to decipher a secret made up language being used on their lines.
