Thanks for the reminder of how awesome our "jobs" are =)

Failure is so common in this business, it's how you react to the failure that matters.

my SEO job was the first one that i ever had health insurance... some people dont know how good they have it ...

yawn

Job = One source of income
MyBiz = Many different sources that produce income if your doing it right.
If one source stops providing, were are you safe.
I've always believed in this strategy, Great Post.

Congrats on the success, Mike! Great to see you breakthrough as you've been very persistent with AM and have worked hard for it :)

I remember your "Confession" thread not that long ago... what a turn-around!

Nice one Mike!

So tell me Mike, (or anyone) do you ever have those anxiety dreams where you are back at work and you don't know what's going on (cause you haven't been there in...years) and you can't figure out how you got there, and you're freakin miserable and then you wake up and go...whew!

Or is it just me?

I have these dreams somtimes. I used to work as an IT manager and I've had dreams of the network going down or sitting in bullsh*t meetings. Glad its not just me.

As far as Health Insurance...
Look for an HSA plan with a high deductable. With the tax savings for any medical expenses, it makes sense. It also covers your ass in case you every have a major medical issue. Another benefit is it can be used for retirement savings.

Yup, I hope I have the drive to go self-employed one day. I mean, currently I'm making a decent amount of money being self-employed, nothing great, but better than some people who graduate college and go into Human Resources! Haha. But I decided to take a job for experience and to see what it is like holding an 8-4. Doesn't hurt bringing in the extra dough, that way I'm doubling the income I'd make otherwise. But I won't lie, it sucks at the same time, I feel I have no life. Now if I can double what I'm making on the Internet, that'll be good. But I have to wait a year, otherwise I owe my job like $4k for buying my contract, and I never liked giving anyone free money. Or maybe stay and then they'll pay for my Masters Degree. I know you don't need it if your self-employed, but I'd still like to have it. I need two lives...

So, out of sheer boredom, I decided to update my LinkedIn profile.
Haha, and here I thought you were mega-busy :)
My own opinion is that if you feel strongly enough to lash out, rant and spend so much of your energy writing about the people who wronged you, then you did not move on. These people are winning as long as you keep being frustrated at them.
I agree with a lot of what you say about self employment, but I've tried it and at this point it really didn't give me the lifestyle I wanted (sometimes the education you get, learning from your failures, becomes insignificant in comparison to actually making cash). I just signed a nice employment contract at a local ad network, and I quite enjoy having health insurance and dental - thank you very much :D

Cool... but makes you look kind of vengeful. It seems rather defensive overall. I would revise it in summary to "Security is working for yourself."

It's a great feeling. I have always agreed with this way of thinking to the point that I avoided all "real" jobs entirely. I am somewhat glad I was stuck working in restaurants and shit. I never allowed myself to fall into the decnet middle class salary with "benefits" way of thinking.

However, I do buy my own health insurance. It is low premium high deductible. I was once 100% against all insurance and still am for certain reasons. However, I feel like unless I have 8+ figures banked I'm not going to take the chance of a serious illness or emergency wiping me out. I pay a couple hundred a month to limit my out of pocket exposure, and through Blue Cross or something similar I have seen plans for young singles ridiculously low like 30 bucks a month.

A lot of it is political bullshit and a lot of other stuff, but people really are conditioned to the point that they think things like insurance and vacation time are some exotic super valuable benefits that have no price tag. That whole freedom for security thing and lack of rational evaluation.

I actually agree with the high deductible HSA / MSA route for insurance. Health insurance should be there for catastrophic coverage. But, I was ranting, and sometime rational thought goes out the window. It's more about the emotions at that time.

I'm nowhere near as fired up as I was when I posted that first post. I've come back down, and once again, really don't care about corporate America and all it's bullshit. I know where I stand, and more importantly where I'm going and that's all anybody really needs.

I would like to add something - not in a rant fashion, but just common sense.

Don't ever think you know everything about online marketing. You don't and you never will. If you can accept this, then it makes learning from others that much easier. Also, don't be afraid to ask questions. I think a lot of people that reach a certain income get embarrassed if they ask a "dumb" question. Don't be, because it will end up costing you money in the end. Hell, I ask dumb questions all the time, and it has helped me immensely!

Finally, just because someone is a n00b to this forum, or even online marketing in general doesn't mean they don't have something to teach you. I've got some great tips from n00bs. Sure, they're fun to bash, but just keep in mind they may be the one that gives you that one great tip and helps put money in your pocket.

Good luck everyone! Feel free to post or PM me your success stories. I love hearing about other people's successes.

Just read the 1st post, nothing else. But it reminded me of the quote at the end of the kids movie "Meet the Robinsons"

"Around here, however, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious, and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." - Walt Disney

It's amazing how a kids flick can get your ass off the couch and back into the office at 7:45pm for another 10 hour marathon coding session.
