On the firing line
Okay, I know there are a few of us here. Eli has an electric car, and Volknet has some aircraft. I've got a nitro car and a heli.

So, what's your RC (radio controlled - for the n00bs) vehicle of choice? Post pics please.

Also, what's your favorite part about being an RC nut? Personally, I like the building and painting aspects. I've got an Aztek airbrush set and have been practicing on heli canopies for the Trex, and I've got about a dozen lids for my Traxxas Sport. Those were all painted with rattle cans.

As for the building: I'm taking my time and thoroughly enjoying building and setting up the helicopter. Prior to this build, I just thought they were hard to fly ;) . But...there is so much that goes into the building, and more importantly the set up, that it's a huge learning curve. Lately I spend more time on Helifreak.com than anywhere else, and reading Shop & Field Companion by Ray Hostetler (it's like the bible of model helicopters).

Oh, and I also have a Blade MCX, which is a palm sized heli. Wicked fun to fly around the basement and so stable anyone can pick up the transmitter and fly it. I bought one for every guy in my family and most of my friends, and they all love them as well.

I built a PT-40 trainer airplane a few years ago. Its powered by a Magnum .40 engine and Futaba (I think that's the name) radio and servos. It was fun to fly, but I never really got hooked. I spent so many hours building the damn thing I was afraid to wreck it.

Nice! I started a couple years ago with a Blade CX, then moved up to the nearly impossible to keep stable in flight Blade CP Pro. Now I run a Blade 400 which is really nice to fly. Stable and large enough to really do some cool stuff. I would like to build a TREX next. Maybe this summer. Was going to go for the 500, but i've heard it can be glitchy depending on your setup. I would love to get into a gas heli, but $$$ lol. I can't stand the thought of trashing a 1500.00 hellicopter in one crash lol.

I got a Duratrax Nitro Evader ST. Pull start locked up on it and has been in the closet for awhile now. Need to break that bitch back out and get'er going again. Fun as Hell. Sorry no pic.

I had a Blade CP Pro. Here's how my flying went:

Lift off -> Crash -> Hobby shop spend $20 to 50 -> Repeat

Fucking nightmare. Since then I've heard from tons of people how difficult the CP Pro is to fly, so it wasn't the best choice for a beginner.

Post a pic of your Blade 400 when you get a chance.

It's THE hardest heli to fly. I had the same thing. Spent some time on a trainer, got to flying pretty well, pulled out the cp pro, got a foot or so off the ground CRASH! Repaired it, got it off the ground CRASH! I haven't touched it since then. The part that broke takes hours to fix because you have to take the whole damn thing apart.

I'll post some pics of the 400 in a bit.

I've got a couple electric Tamiya cars back in Vancouver in storage. A Nissan Skyline and a Mitsubishi Lancer. I spent a lot of time on the bodywork which is pretty near perfect, but I've hardly driven them. Bit of a shame really.

I would love to have a helicopter some day.

HA! I wish! I can't even do that in the flight simulator without racking up a bill :)

I have one of these:

That's right, the TYCO TRIPLE WHEELS 6V JET TURBO.
This motherfucker can flip upside down and KEEP GOING. Can your shitty little car do that? I don't think so.

I used to build and race 1:12 carpet racers. Specifically the Team Associated RC12L3... Then the indoor track shut down and I ended up selling everything.

Looking back now I was a bit addicted. I'd spend around $1,500 building a single car. (Damn, I've had this user-name forever...)

Ummm...no. But it can flip upside down and break the shock mounts. I've done that about 3 times. I was told that my springs and shocks aren't set up correctly for jumping. Too stiff in the back (or front) and too spongy on the other end.

Can your upside down car go 45 mph? :D

Nope, thing's a dinosaur. I've had it for like 15 years. Back in its glory days though...

Most of my summers back in 4th grade were spent waiting for those damn battery packs to charge.

LOL! I know the feeling. I can hover inverted and do some rolls, but beyond that...

Anyhow, here's one of my favorite videos of Alan Szabo Jr. with a Trex 600 indoors. For those of you unfamiliar with model heli's a Trex 600 has a rotor span of about 1 meter and the main blades are turning in excess of 2000 RPM. They hurt a little if you get hit by them :D

WHAT THE HELL am I doing wrong with the video embeds?
/edit/ Thanks 1EighT that worked.

I always thought it gotta be REALLY hard to fly these heli's...like one wind gust and that thing goes down and breaks into 97,7 pieces. That happening to a thing you spent 300 hours on building would make do the 'falling down'.

Personally I have not done much RC since simple cars in my younger days, however the Blade MCX you talk about might be a simple and cheap way to get back into it.

My car now has dualie paddles , a better cooling system and a custom painted formula 1 body :)
I'll have to get that vid uploaded from my camera of it shredding up quads at the dunes. lol in case i don't get it imagine being on a $3k banshee and getting passed like you're standing still by a little rc car as it shoots 10ft+ rooster tails in your face. pwned bitches! hehehehe *evil chuckle* I still love rc I just don't do it as much as I used to.

I really need to get a new heli. I originally also made the mistake of getting a blade cp. I knew it would be the hardest to learn how to fly it but i had no idea it would be impossible. Turned out something was wrong with the electronics that controled the gyro or something like that. So whenever it would leave the ground it would instantly try to bank and crash immediately. Once i tried another helicopter turns out i'm pretty darn good at flying (probably not as good as you guys are though but i'm ballsy as hell). So I'm still hoping to get a trex soon.

Umm lets see. I have been flying RC for 5 years now. Im NUTTY about it. I fly in contests all over the US. Im sponsored by Castle Creations, Cermark, and Fancy foam. I love helping people, if you guys have questions, let me know. I fly anything I can get my hands on, but my favorites are 3D helicopters and big 3D Airplanes. I attached some pictures of some of my favorite planes and helis.

Here is clip from last weekend, I blew the bolts off the cylinder on my airplane and had to do a dead stick landing. Watch that fence carefully... It sucked cause I had to scrub that round of flying, but I still placed third.
