Malcolm- I know your time is worth more than sueing someone for a job in the x,xxx range. You can replace that business in 1-2 days. You have the site and seo in hand in essence anyways, so if they dont want it, fine.
As a bonus- Id find their competitors and offer to seo them instead, at a discount if necessary. But to waste your time in a lawsuit...over 4 figs..seriously.

about to tell him the exact same thing. file a small claim in small claims court. You dont even need a lawyer to represent and its lot hassle free to win the case. Good luck

Step 1. Have your attorney write up something showing them what they did wrong and how you can take their ass to town.
Step 2. Demand 5 Times their original price or you file it.
Step 3. AFTER they pay you, demand more. Tell them it's for mental anguish. Remind them that they don't have a choice.
Step 4. AFTER they pay you more, tell them you already sold something like this to their competition. (Which you could actually do for even more money...) So it might be worthless by now.

Definitely agree with Jon on this one. The amount isn't worth getting lawyered up over. You know what kind of client they are now, and inform them that their work will go to a competitor at a discount as a matter of principle. What a bunch of fucktards.
