The Enlightened Members subforum is a case of unintended consequences. By trying to promote content, it gets buried in a forum no one reads.

So now we're unintentionally burying good content which completely defeats the purpose of putting out good content for the forum. I know I wouldn't have made that thread if I thought it would get buried, no point in spending 2 hours writing it.

My 7k thread got moved to Enlightened Members, and people keep asking me where my thread is. I imagine this has happened with lots of the other threads (this is my first E.M. thread afaik).

Close Enlightened Members. Move the threads to forums people read. If I wanted my thread to be obscure, I would have put it in T&C. At least a few hundred people would have seen it there.

No one reads Enlightened Members, and certainly no one looks there for new content.

Not to mention, "Enlightened Members" just sounds faggy, considering half of the stuff in there is fucking garbage and the other half is gold no one is going to see unless someone nuts up and does the right thing.

G they're gonna move this post to "Enlightened Members" too and no one will see your petition because everything you post is pure gold and needs to be stickied.

trololo.

good point though.

Completely agree with this. To be honest a lot of sections should be consolidated. Any section that has under 5 people viewing it at any given time probably should be closed or consolidated. Otherwise that section's presence is making it less likely for people to discuss the topic (because they don't want to post it in the subsection since nobody will respond and then feel unsure about posting it in STS because they're worried that they'll get in trouble for purposefully posting it in STS so that more than 2 people view the thread).

I know that out of all the public sections, I check STS, Affiliate Marketing, and T&C all the time but no other sections. I rarely check Enlightened since there are so few new posts/threads there.

I'm on the fence. I agree with there being a lack of views and participation, but I do like have a consolidated place where all these magical balls of wisdom are located.

I have to agree about removing it (or at least make it something that isn't a sub-section).

Half of the good threads on STS get moved there, and the other half disappear on STS.

Also, the fact that anyone can start a new thread on there leads to some "unenlightened members" posting random crap.

STS threads can be off page 1 in a day. There's only 1 page right now in Enlightened Members, so things that were posted there weeks ago are still being seen.

People shouldn't base their self esteem on view counts, likes, or rep points. Just sayin........ lol

Honestly if I could make a suggestion on consolidation:

Keep:

STS
Affiliate Marketing
T&C
Mailing (isn't used much, but is still a solid section)
Combine Design/Programming & Hosting/Domains
BST
Make an Education & Case Studies section - Combine Enlightened Members and Education Center (and Sticky the Enlightened Member posts and move this right below STS to encourage more people to view and post in it)
Get rid of Industry News (if anyone hears news they post it in STS, AM, or T&C)
Newbie Questions

Then the forum would look like:
Shooting the Shit
Education & Case Studies
Affiliate Marketing
Traffic & Content
The Art of Mailing
Design, Programming & Hosting
Sell, Buy & Trade
Affiliate Managers
Newbie Questions

Just my 2 cents.

I don't think we should be talking about getting the forums all changed around because it takes years for stuff to happen around here.

Let's just get rid of these useless subforums as a start.

Then when that gets done, we can think about moving content around.

TBH, I don't want my posts in an education center. I want them read, and Jon and Stanley made a decision a long time ago to promote STS as the most read forum by how they laid things out. So I want most of my posts to the community to go into STS. I don't write long posts so no one reads them.

Brilliant, now cross your fingers or get to work figuring out a way to get Jon to deign to give a shit.

Actually, I like having all the posts in one area to view.

Although, I also agree its a death sentence too.

I think the best solution is to either:

  • leave them in enlightened and leave them in their original forum category
  • leave them in original forum category, but add a special tag to find all these type of posts later in 1 area.

I think the problem is with it being a sub-forum under a sub-forum, Enlightened Members should be called something else and has it's own Forum right below STS. Accessible with just one-click.
