Republicans threatened martial law to get bailout bill passed

The senate fucked this bill up bad. It was horrible to begin with, Now it's just an embarrassment and a complete joke. Did the media even mention what sort of senseless provision were attached to this bill? It's ridiculous.
America is no longer a democracy nor a free market economy; it has morphed into this fascist corporatism that's almost worse than Socialism. The lines have been blurred between business and government, where corporate failure is rewarded with fiat money to keep this illusion or prosperity going, if not for just a bit longer.
Our whole system is ridiculous and makes me sick. This short-lived "capitalist" experiment sure doesn't seem like it's going to last very much longer.
I'm not blaming it on the free markets, which have been proven to flourish sans government intervention; I'm blaming it on wall street execs and our government, Democrats and Republicans alike, who turned their back on the free market and the American people.

Ya nothing like having the citizens they are supposed to represent call in to the Reps with anywhere from 90 to 99% against the "bailout". The first vote barely fails although no citizens want it.
Then the Senate decides to vote on it despite that it failed the House. You know cause senators are more corrupt and bought and paid for. Easier to buy 100 people than 500....

Certainly starting to seem that way. They're obviously worried about it on capitol hill and I wonder if that's not what they discussed in the closed session they had a few months ago. I'd bet that our soldiers would actually join the civilians and stage a coup or drop out of the service if it came down to it. I don't believe that most of them would agree to take action considering the situation most of their families are in, how stressed they are with the wars and how much the government is screwing them on benefits.

True. But I think the thread has now evolved along the lines of "Our government is no longer for the people by the people", instead of the Martial law OP.
The American Revolution was over a 2 or 3 % tax.
Afterwards, it did come out that the members of the House were warned that Martial Law (the regular kind) would occur if they didn't pass the bill. Brad Sherman, a Democrat from Cali spoke out about it in the media and his floor speech.

Hate to break the news to everyone, but we have been regulated for a long time, the recent events have NOTHING to do with this. We havent been a free market since we dropped the gold standard (1930's?). How can we be a free market economy when a private bank adjusts our interest rates? A free market would take care of this on it's own.

I always laugh when people insist a revolution is right around the corner. There will never be another revolution in this country. The people are too lazy, ignorant and apathetic. Americans are, by and large, some pretty useless fucks.
Democracy is also just a word that is used by our politicians whenever they want to make a war. As much as they would like to make people believe otherwise, we're not a democracy, we're a republic.
The difference is that our representatives can make whatever laws they feel like we need to have and all the people can do about it is elect someone else. If you're really wanting something to revolt against, it's the political parties that you should look at. In a republic like the US, the only direct access to power that the people have is through elections. What kind of power is that, when we are consistently forced to choose between the lesser of 2 evils?
