Review some of these logos for me? (Some are kinda cool?)

These are not logos, it's text with clipart over them.

Not ideal for branding. I wouldn't use any of them for your actual logo, maybe as an illustration.

Get rid of all the extra background mess. Kids playing drinking and etc..

Use the "High School headquarters" from 4 or 2 (except stack the "high" on top like 4) and use a circle / sun effect like the ones you see in 5, 6, and 7. Then around the circle place sillouhettes of the major themes of the site (similar to number 9) You know a science glass, a school book, football, baseball, cell phone, diploma, pencil, match equation etc...

Ths way you can focus on the brand name while still showing a significant but subtle visual of what to expect to find on the site...

Okay, I think I am the only one, but I am not feelin' any of them... I don't know if I'm the best judge since it's been 11 years since I was in HS (gawd that makes me sound old), but from a marketing standpoint none stand out for me as a possible brand image.

It seems like you want to hear everything, so I finally posted my thoughts... :)

2 (if any) is the most brandable - all the others have too much shit going on in the background.

CLKeenan, they're all too busy for me. I'm a fan of simple logos.

On a side note, are you renaming your course notes website or are you starting a new one? I'm in a somewhat similar situation; I have a booming website with a horrible domain that I'm considering renaming (and redirecting).

Here is the feedback I sent the designer back:

Hi Linda,

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry for the delay on my part to respond
to you, things just got really busy all the sudden for me.

These new logos were a huge improvement over the first drafts. I am
exceptionally fond of HighSchoolHeD15bR00aP01AL.jpg and
HighSchoolHeD22cR00aP01AL.jpg. Would it be possible to revise the two so I
can make a final decision?

I love the font used for High School, but the font for Headquarters
doesn't really fit too well. Could we please change it to the font used
for Headquarters in logo HighSchoolHeD22bR00aP01AL.jpg? I attached an
image of a quick MS Paint job where I replaced the two fonts to give you a
better idea of what Im talking about.

Also, it would be best if partying was depicted in another way, that
didn't involve alcohol imagery because the website will be targeting the
high school audience. What if we replaced the character drinking with a DJ
with turntables and big speakers? Here are some examples:

I think the DJ would represent partying really well.

Also could we remove the shadow background image of the guy the martini
glass and replace it with maybe 4 sports fans with H S H Q painted across
their chests?

I think those images would cover a variety of different aspects of the
life of a high school student; music, partying, school spirit and sports.

The color scheme looks great. Lets keep it the way it is :)

Could we change the color scheme to the orange/navy blue scheme so that it
will blend with the rest of the site? The current color scheme would clash
pretty badly with the layout.

Also, could you try adding a few more of the graffiti style effects in the
font for High School, like the ones you see in
HighSchoolHeD22bR00aP01AL.jpg and HighSchoolHeD15bR00aP01AL.jpg? Nothing
too crazy, just somewhere in between what it is now and what the 2 logos
mentioned above are like.

Maybe on the left side instead of having another book could have a stack
of papers instead?

That's all I have for now. Thanks again for all your help.

I think branding for my audience and branding for an audience you are trying to sell to is different.

I am trying to incorporate imagery that my target audience can relate to so that as soon as they come to the website, they feel at home. As long as they can remember the name HighSchoolHQ.com (or highschoolheadquarters.com - I have both) so that they can tell their friends then thats all that matters me.

I appreciate everyones input- positive or negative :)

If I was going for a more corporate look for the website, I would definitely have a simpler logo.

Right now the plan is to create a new brand and essentially have my two websites compete against each other so I can capture a larger % of the market share. Hopefully users will become regular visitors of both websites :)

However, if I can't get things off the ground over the course of the next school year for High School HQ, I might merge the two brands next summer during the downtime.

I would very carefully consider getting opinions from actual high school kids (don't we have some on here? Did they reply?). Since high school is really just a big popularity contest, and who/what you associate with has a huge impact on how other see you, I think the *brand* that you create here is perhaps more important than it would be otherwise (and that all starts with the logo).

None of these logos are very 'cool' to me. I just can't picture a teenager going crazy over them or wanting to tell their friends...

K, I swear I have said my peace. No more from me! ;)
