Ringling Slapped With Largest Penalty in Circus History | PETA.org

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECspj0daAlE]Ringling Beats Animals: A PETA Undercover Investigation - YouTube[/ame]

Feld Entertainment, the parent company of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, must now pay the largest settlement of its kind in U.S. history―$270,000―for alleged violations of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) dating from the present back to 2007.
PETA has been after the USDA all this time, including recent meetings during which we presented unequivocal evidence of animal abuse, including beatings, the death of a lion, lame elephants forced to perform despite pain, and a baby elephant who died during a training routine, to take action against Ringling for abusing the animals in its care. We had recently filed a new formal request for action against Ringling, and our attorneys had met with the USDA's general counsel and urged her to begin enforcement proceedings.
Among the evidence that PETA presented were testimonial and photographic evidence that baby elephants at Ringling's training compound are torn away from their mothers and subjected to violent training sessions so that they will learn how to perform tricks and video footage from a PETA investigation showing how elephants used by Ringling are whipped, beaten, and yanked by heavy, sharp steel-tipped bullhooks behind the scenes, prior to performing.
In addition to receiving the largest civil penalty ever assessed against an exhibitor under the AWA, Ringling must now provide all employees who handle animals with training and hire a staff member dedicated to AWA compliance. We will see how that goes.
The government has long failed to act but now has finally taken action. It's a great start, but no one should forget that elephants and other animals pay the price every time anyone buys a ticket to the circus. Ask all the parents you know not to take their children to this cruel show, and explain why or show them our videos.
Please click here to thank the USDA for taking action against Ringling for its abuse of animals, and urge officials to go a step further and confiscate the circus' sick and ailing elephants.

I'm no fan of Peta. But I'm glad ringling got hit. These animals are WILD, they shouldn't have hats on and be getting whipped in order to make them behave like housecats.

The worst part was seeing the elephant swaying side to side just wanting to be able to be free and be an elephant, they are in TRUE misery. Imagine being forced to work a boring desk job 11 hours day, everyday. No talking, no socializing, nothing new, EVER.

The whipping probably didn't hurt that much(me being hopeful) BUT I am only guessing and even so, those low-lifes cretons definitely wanted to inflict pain for some reason. Maybe because they lead pathetic and miserable lives. Man I hate people.

But really, I feel bad for animals used against their own instinctive nature. How much must that suck? My neighbor's dog is tied up 24-7, 365, and it does the exact same thing as that elephant does. Big dog too, about 80 lbs. I sit there and just watch him sometimes and feel really bad for him.

Call animal control. Better yet take a few pictures and post it on {Reddit|Digg}. Pretty sure that problem will get solved. Wait for your next {rainy|snowy} day for maximum effect.

Yeah .Hack, I actually could, the dog loves me. I throw him food off my plate and pet him when I can.

But, 2 things stand in my way. Besides the way they treat the dog, I really like my neighbors, they are good people they just shouldn't own a dog they don't have time for AND more importantly the dog has never lived a street life and he's full grown now. He would get hit by a car the first day he was let free on dem skreetz.

If the neighbor is cool you should ask them if you can let it play on your yard since it's always tied up. I'm pretty sure they won't gaf since it's tied all day :D. They'll probably make you feed it if you do lulz

Yeah they probably would want me to fed him, lol. I've thought of it but feel weird about asking. I feel like they'll take offense, but maybe I should anyway.

What the heck... first, that's just wrong. Secondly, why in the world would you hit something 20x bigger than you. Imagine when one day one of the elephants have a bad day and strike back.

Stop being a pussy and do something about it. Call animal control, doesn't help the dog by sitting there feeling sorry for him, take action.
