Pretty sure turning a blind eye to child rape makes him deserve this and more.
Except he did report it. Should he have followed it up? Totally. Advised the redhead to tell the police? Absolutely. He should have investigated it privately or done something about the "charity".
I completely agree with you that he didn't do enough. For that he doesn't get a pass from me. I'm just saying that the blame is disproportionate compared to the other people involved with this who failed just as epically.
The assistant, who saw the crime and did nothing, the department, who should have suspended Sandusky and launched an investigation, and the campus police, who didn't bother looking into it, are all getting off fairly easy by comparison. That's what I'm finding unfair.
That's why you take it to the Police and let them decide who to prosecute so they can take it to court and PROVE whether he did it or not.
Using Paterno's testimony they would've had nothing but hearsay. The university needed to suspend Sandusky, talk to victims/redhead, and then turn him in. Paterno should have done more but making blind accusations based on what the redhead said he saw...I don't know.
They're all guilty in my book, one isn't more guilty than the other. If any of them had done the right thing maybe a few more kids could have been spared a life of indignity and shame?
Some were more negligent than others in my opinion but I get where you're coming from. I do agree with you that someone should've stepped in sooner.
And I would hope that these kids will one day be able to heal from this rather than live "a life of indignity and shame". I hope they get the help they need. This was a terrible thing to have happen to them.
Fuck you. If I'm at work and I go into the bathroom and I see one of my co-workers molesting a child I'm not telling my supervisor. I'M GOING TO CALL THE FUCKING POLICE! Right there on the spot. 9. 1. 1. I'm not gonna run this up my chain of command, this goes so far beyond "telling my boss."
Agreed except it was the redhead who saw the kid getting raped. It was the redhead who left without doing anything. And it was the redhead who saw what happened and ultimately didn't tell the police. Not Paterno.
This goes far beyond a "poor decision." He knew kids were being molested and didn't do shit about it because he didn't want the good reputation he built to be destroyed, so he hid it and only told people he knew would protect his rep, who also covered it up. Rot in Hell Paterno. Rot in hell.
That was a poor choice of words on my part. My bad. I could be wrong on this, but I haven't seen evidence that he masterminded that type of cover-up. Totally willing to change my opinion once the facts come out though.
Hopefully he doesn't die before being sent to prison. I can't wait to see what the inmates do with his cornhole.
An old man and a child molester. That won't end well for Sandusky and I can't say I'm sorry.
