Ron Paul In Iowa

aaah well. If Ron Paul doesn't end up winning the nomination (which then I would have had to actually consider voting republican ) then it's just as well for the dems that Huckabee does win the nomination. Cause there is very little chance, in the current political environment, that a religious nut is going to snag the presidency again.

I would be curious to know though. For all you die hard Ron Paul supporters...what happens if he doesn't get the nomination...who then? Would you switch sides or settle for another republican?

None of the candidates even compare to Ron Paul...but...

If Obama gets the nomination I would consider voting for him over the other Republicans, except maybe Fred Thompson, since he understands federalism.

If it's Clinton vs. Huckabee or Romney or Giuliani...I'm going to stay home and weep for my country.

As much as I like Ron Paul, he's not going to win the bid.. and I knew it from the start, but still had some hope that MAYBE people would wisen the fuck up and listen instead of judging by how much cash someone raised or any other silly factor people are considering instead of the facts. Cmon! Dr. Paul kicked ass and took names during some of those debates. He made his peers look like the common self-centered, brown-nosing lying to please the crowd for that moment type of politician that they really are. It's just plain frustrating!

at least the results matched teh straw poll. lets hope the rest of the states do the same where he wins all the straw polls. I'm in deep hatred for those old farming bastards in iowa right now. It just pisses me off how close we were to a third place finish, just grabbing a flew more supporters on your way in to the booths, jesus. All well to be expected in his worst state. People keep asking what the ron paul supporters will do if he doesn't get the nom. Well what they should do is become as upper fuckin class as possible as quickly as possible, unfortunately there isn't much of a future for the lower and middle class of this country. Abuse it you loose it, same goes for voting.

People will continue to vote for whoever the rich and powerful tell them to vote for, just like they'll continue to wonder why their quality of life sucks when they work so hard.

I really wish a few more supporters could have put in in the third place range also.

But really this isn't really a huge loss for Paul. IA was going to be tough anyway. IA farmers are interested in gov't subsidies, which Paul was obviously was against. Doing 10% in IA is actually pretty good.

Iowa is really interesting because, you've got a bunch of social, bible-gripping conservatives who would tend to vote Republican and fall in line with people just like Huckabee. But on the other side, you've got a bunch of low-income to middle-class citizens and then farmers that want whatever the government can give them - these people would apply to democrats.

I would expect Paul to do better in NH. His support there is much greater and I think NH would be a better representation of the country.

One more thing I can add is that Paul's message really only appeals to smart, intelligent people.

How many intelligent people do you think there are in this country?

When I try to talk about Ron Paul in different groups of people, and when I have people watch his speeches, some people are down-right scared of his message. On issues like paying less taxes and smaller government, I often here people say:

"Less government? But what about my medicare??!!"

"Less taxes? Then who's going to fund my medicaid."

You see, there is a HUGE number of people in this country that are just fine with getting taxed with whatever the government feels like taxing. These are the same people who tend to drink from the government keg and aren't capable of making their own money or they make so little that the small amount that they are taxed.

To understand why someone (which most of us believe in and adore) placed 5th in Iowa is to LOOK AT IOWA and take a better look at the country as a whole. The country is not a country of Go-getters, do-it-yourself entrepreneurs. We now have a country of lazy folks talking hand-outs and whatever they can get from the government.

I don't want to rant too much, but I think that it's important to take a step back and understand that Ron Pauls message - as revolutionary as it may be - is downright scary to a huge percentage of Americans.

I am not a Ron Paul guy but I think him being this popular a candidate is a big win already. Even though I disagree with a lot of his policies he delivers them with common sense behind it. Two people can disagree but have a logical, intelligent reason behind their opinion. When RP speaks he speaks with intelligence and confidence and I truly respect that.

I am glad that Obama won and thats who I have been pulling for but I am glad that RP has shown that not everybody on the republican side of the fence are religious nuts. If it wasn't for his support of the war I wouldn't mind seeing Mccain winning the republican nomination

aim - how do you explain Warren Buffet who nobody calls stupid, saying he thinks the government should get more of his money?

People will continue to vote for whoever the rich and powerful tell them to vote for, just like they'll continue to wonder why their quality of life sucks when they work so hard.

So fuckin' true.

Let me see if I've got this right... Your taxes pay senators a decent salary to do a certain job, but for most of this year a load of them will be campaigning around the country, rather than doing the job you pay them to do? :error:

It's nice to see Edwards (just) beat Clinton, but whoever wins (bar Dr Paul) I'm sure it'll be business as usual.

Too many people know WHO they are voting for, but not WHAT they are voting for.

US Senior citizens doped up on medication should not be allowed to vote.

[SIZE=-1]side effects include dry mouth, blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness and inability to vote for a proper candidate.

I am not going to blame the media on our country's faith any longer.
We have too many intelligent people who see right past the BS.

I blame the

Evangelicals,Senior Citizens

and the illiterate red necks.

I blame the evangelicals myself. . . I would consider myself a tried-and-true Libertarian, but if I have to pick one of the two major parties, my tendencies lean towards the party that will work on reducing the federal government's impact on business, which almost always means I trend towards republican. But then you get these pro-death penalty, pro-life, pro-marriage constitutional amendment folks in the "base" of the republican party, and it all goes to shit.

And yea, the elderly constantly vote status-quo with an increase in social services (because the elderly are the ones that use them).

I'll be interesting to see how the rest of the primaries go. Iowa ain't shit. Paul has an honest chance at coming in 3rd in New Hampshire, which might FINALLY give some notice to the republican party.

Ron Paul beat Giuliani by almost triple in Iowa. Just now CNN was talking about the Iowa results and showing the economic ideas/plans of the "top" republican candidates it went Huckabee, Romney, McCain, and Giuliani.

Thompson was also left out even though he came in 3rd.

Like I've said all along, Ron Paul = Snakes on a Plane

Lots of hype, disappointing turnout.

I agree with some of the man's views (and disagree with others), but the fact of the matter is that all of the email spam botnets and front page Digg stories in the world count for DICK in this case.

In the first Republican debate on Fox News, they had an online poll asking who viewers thought won the debate. Naturally, Ron Paul supporters flooded to foxnews.com and Ron Paul won the poll.

Meant NOTHING. Why?

Because as soon as the poll numbers came up on the screen, Sean Hannity says on camera that obviously the poll has been hacked.

Now while you and I may know that's not true, do you really think Ma and Pa Kettle in middle America didn't take his assertion at face value? Come on. Ron Paul got BOOED by the crowd during that debate for one of his remarks. THAT is what stuck with the viewers.

I've got an 80yo grandmother who votes Democrat every 4 years and a baby boomer father who has never voted anything but Republican. Neither of them have ever heard of Digg, neither of them get their politics from the web, and guess what... they are the voting majority!

I'm not saying it's right that Ron Paul didn't get as much mainstream media exposure as some other candidates, and I'm not crying conspiracy either. But the fact of the matter is that when you're pitching yourself to the country as a whole, TV spots and interviews and pavement-pounding grassroots supporters will trump social media and forum warriors every time.

The internet is playing an increasingly more important role in the political process, but we need to understand and accept that internet-savvy voters are still a minority in this country.

I wouldn't say Paul got nothing. Iowa Republicans trend towards voting their faith - and Huckabee has even described himself as a "Christian Leader" (which, subsequently, sends chills down my atheist spine). . .

Ron Paul got 10% of the vote. That's pretty remarkable, especially in light of Mccain and Thompson getting only 13% votes, respectively. The true test for Paul comes in New Hampshire, which is a libertarian stronghold. He needs to come in 3rd there. If he can't muster a 3rd place run in New Hampshire, it will show that he can't garner enough broad-base support to rally other states. Even Nevada is a good staging ground for him, since most Nevadans tend to be liberty-minded individuals (that are also strongly pro-states rights).

In NH

Did you see this guy from Google who quit and went packing to NH (they tried to get 1000 pople out there) Kind of like the Deaniacs 4 yrs ago.

Here's a link to their guy's story and his site.
He was a this speech
YouTube - Candidates@Google: Ron Paul
(it's long, but pretty a good with Google employees)

this is what they are doing
Operation Live Free or Die

BTW...RP's fundraising has been strong with the money bomb (6M in 1 day)

I think some of you full up people (Eli, etc) could drive some serious traffic to RP's site based on relevant keywords--I mean it would just be a few thousand basement sites,
with a few hundred foundation sites, with a few money (vote conversion) sites.

Hell for the PPC kings and queens, if you search Huckabee, there are no advertisers - you could convert votes while doing zip submits to pay for the traffic (you can buy me a beer if this works)
