Russia drops the petro dollar.

Good thing I'm rich and live in Singapore.

If this goes much further, it's not going to matter where you live, and or how much money you have. Shit will get really fucking bad for most of the world.

That article seems to be written with a tin foil hat on...

"You may or may not recall that it was a U.S.-led energy blockage against Japan in the 1940's that ultimate forced Japan to launch its surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. In a similar pattern, the U.S. and NATO nations are currently forcing devastating economic sanctions onto Russia, driving the nation into a rapidly-dwindling set of defensive options, one of which includes the deployment of nuclear weaponry."

They'll find a way to agree to disagree. The Europeans will accept Ukraine as a part of russia and the US will reluctantly agree. Everything will go back to the way it was. The days of superpowers fighting one another with guns and missiles is over, That's for the smaller inane countries to perform. Economy wars will wage on.

How is that tin foil hat? It's a well proven and documented fact that the US provoked Japan to attack them during WWII. This was over 70 years ago, there's no debate on that any more. The US was neutral, then basically put Japan into a cage, and poked it with a stick until it attacked.

As for Russia, it's the same scenario. Why do you think the Ruble has taken such a massive shit lately? That would be outside influences, mainly the US. Not to mention, trying to get Ukraine into the EU was a mistake to begin with. Back in the day, both NATO and WARSAW agreed that Ukraine would act as a buffer, so when the West tried to pull Ukraine into the EU, obviously Russia got a little pissy.

Let's hope! You're probably right though. We can't have a war of that scale in this day and age, because it'd mean humans become extinct. Our technology is too great now.

Bout time for another war

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Putin should have waited a few more years before making dumb military moves. The west owns intellectual properties and the illusion of freedom that attracts even more talent.

Yes Russia has plenty of energy but weak political structure. Same with China. When you try to weaken the DOLLAR stranglehold on the world economy you get blow-back.

Time will tell, but the days of the Dollar been the number one currency is slowly coming to an end.

inb4 world war 3. Thanks obama

Russia, india, brazil and I believe china have been trying to do this for a while now. Its no coincidence that we are pals with cuba now. Stock up on radiation pills.

Not sure, but maybe there's a correlation there. The US can't be worried about another Cuban Missile Crisis though. If Russia wants to nuke the US, they don't need Cuba any more. ICBMs are a tad more advanced then they were in the 60s.

Disclaimer: i tend to be a bit partial to japanese matters (being half japanese, growing up in japan, etc). But even I know that japanese gubment policies/past actions (like any gubment in this world--ex: US gubment?) can be disagreeable. The people don't always agree with what their gubment does. Now, having said that...

@Kiopa_Matt...that's the line used in most japanese history books, what they teach in japanese grade schools. "Geez, the U.S. provoked Japan into war" :p ..Erm..okeydoke...so....Why did the US take these actions (energy blockage) in the first place? Why? For the hell of it? Just for the fun of it? You answer that question and you'll realize that the U.S. was bending over backwards and being really diplomatic/nice to a former pre-ww2 ally by taking an indirect response (economic sanctions) and not a direct one (military action). Shit, if Japan (or any other country in asia..north korea, perhaps?) took the same imperial actions today like.. idk ..invade a neighborhood country and taking agressive steps to dominate/take over all of asia via military invasions. Do you think the world would just stand by and be nice and 'indirect' about it today?

idk bro, I mean they do find new cures to cancer like 5 times a week maybe they could be right?

I'll never understand why anarchists/libertarians/doomsday constantly fantasize about the "collapse of the United States" as if they would fare any better with their 2 week supply of canned corn, water, and iodine supplements. Currency swaps are an everyday occurrence and just because 2 governments agree to one doesn't mean it's the end of trade in the USD. Kevin O'Leary puts it nicely:

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbtBqeLxiq0[/ame]

"It doesn't matter what a politician says or an investment banker says, it's what Rayon thinks and what the cab drivers do"

The USD won't always be king, but it's hard to see any other currency replacing it in international trade anytime soon.

China and Russia have a currency swap? Go find me a Chinese supplier who wants to be paid in rubles or a Russian affiliate who wants to be paid in Yuan.

I'll wait...

Shinjirarenai - didn't know that!

I think the answer here is playing out for all to see in Crimea & Ukraine tbf. You have to disregard each side's "reporting" and get the truth... which isn't often available to the voting public at the crucial time unless you look further than regular (popular) media.

A base currency for international trade doesn't mean that currency will automatically become the default currency people get paid in.

In the end it doesn't matter what currency people on the street get paid in because if the currency the person is paid in is not the same as the currency of the country they live it, it will get converted.

I couldn't give two fucks what I'm paid in; USD, EUR, BTC, RUB, CNY.
