Was looking at a laptop on craigslist and got this email reply.

Great....here is my number so call me tomorrow! When you are ready, we can actually do the transaction at the same time. The fastest way to send payment is by western union. PLEASE PAY IN PERSON AT AN AGENT LOCATION ONLY; NOT ONLINE!!! You may use cash or credit card for this transaction. For security, PLEASE create a security question and password. They will give you a receipt for your records.

Call me with the confirmation so that I can verify you are sending the money and I will immediately ship your laptop via Fedex 2nd day air and give you the tracking number. You will be able to track online via www.fedex.com PLEASE FORWARD YOUR SHIPPING ADDRESS (Give me a call when you are ready so we can talk and I will know who I am dealing with!)

That list of stuff on the website looks exactly like the list someone use to spam into the WF buy/sell section.

an interesting idea for those who sell their stuff on craigs is to respond to those who didn't win the bidding and offer them a chance to win a free version of what you're selling.

So for example if you're selling a TV, one guy wins but many were interested. Maybe you email those who were interested and say as a consolation prize here is a link to win a free TV.

A small idea to make some extra coin

LOL, the guy is using geocities.com for his site?! RED FLAG #1

Also, don't EVER wire funds via Western Union or any other wire services. The only way to do business on craigslist is to meet the seller or buyer in person (this is all it was ever meant for).

That said, I love craigslist. It's amazing how fast one can get a reply when selling something on there. Just last week I put up an ad for a computer I was selling and within 10mins I had 4 people interested and sold it that same night. You can pretty much find anything on there. Personally, I like meeting up for a transaction in person rather than online. Accept cash only and you can't go wrong.

Here is their "avoid scams" section and examples of past fraud.

There is no way in hell this is not a scam.

Anyone who requires western union for payment is trying to scam you.

Tell him you will pay him with paypal, and he can set up an account in like 2 minutes.

If nothing screamed scam then the quick google of the phone number produced this little gem.
