Not as sad as the pony one someone posted awhile back, but this one is pretty bad

Sheriff: Illegal immigrant rescues boy - Life - MSNBC.com

The Gist: A kid and his mom wreck off a cliff, she dies he survives the crash, but is left all alone in the middle of nowhere. An illegal immigrant comes along when the boy was searching for help. The border jumper stays with the boy and helps him survive until rescue comes. Orphan gets saved, mom is dead, illegal immigrant gets arrested. Oh and to cap it off the kid's dad just died two months earlier.

Yeah, I posted the story about the Pit Bull who killed the pony that belonged to a kid with cancer. Most tragic headline ever, but your story is definitely tragic as well.
