Few days ago I opened a online store sellin shirts. I found fulfillment service, I designed the shirts, coded the store design, everything neat and sweet...and then I opened the store up.

The selling point of the shirts is a meme, sort of.

So far the only idea to market the business was to go on twitter, search for people who tweeted the meme and then - reply to their tweet. Pretty basic. But there has to be the other way other than plugging the store via twitter search.

Anyone here could shed a light on this subject? I don't feel comfortable going around the web and spamming related blogs, comments, youtube etc...I feel people find that lame, and I feel lame dropping out of the blue somewhere and saying "oh yeah that's really funny and if you didn't know I have a shirt for that so go buy it".

Help me please I'm melting I'm melting

You're a perfect example of why most people fail online. Don't you think it'd be more logical to have all the marketing theory sorted out first? Refer to the part of your business plan titled, sales plan/marketing strategy.

I rolled out the store and contacted the fulfillment for 2 reasons

1) I wanted to jump in it before some one else did, since I know it won't be "trending" forever

2) the only cost so far is hosting

So there's no helping me? Doomed program?

May I say, I've been contacted by the guy behind the trend, he has few hundred thousand fans on Facebook and Twitter...so, maybe I can work something out with him.

Thanks for the encouragement tho.

Pay some Hooters Waitresses to model your shirts and then have them do some sexy and fun shit while you record them.

For guys you could go to a gym or the fire dept. and pay them to do the same.

Hell, go to a college and give free shirts to students that are partying in exchange for them wearing them and letting you make videos.

You could also pay a few people on Fiver to wear some of your shirts and do some off the wall crazy crap with them on.

Then post the videos with your website address up on YouTube and any other Tube site you can get them on.

You could also just put "teaser" vids up on the tube sites and then have the full videos on your Shirt Site for them to come and see the rest/full video. Just be sure to have CLEAR and OBVIOUS calls to action on the video pages of your site.

Then start to create some content on your site that would relate to your keywords/memes and start ranking your pages.

Then use some PPC to drive traffic while waiting for the other stuff to start working.

Just a few quick ideas for ya.

I'm assuming you're doing something like this.....Meme T-shirts, Shirts and Custom Meme Clothing

Thanks Midas, the fiver stuff and college stuff seems like a very cool idea, thanks for that.

Meme store is cool, Im trying something similar to that yea :D

You're not gonna make it with that "lame" attitude. If it makes money then why not?

Seems retarded to go through all that work and not have a solid marketing plan / business model in place.

If your shirt's meme related, why don't you advertise where the audience loves that shit? Buy ads on 9gag, knowyourmeme, reddit/r/adviceanimal.

I would also try to buy sponsored twitter ads from meme related accounts. There's 800k followers for this account https://twitter.com/OhWonka/.

But yea it doesn't seem like a solid business you have going there since it's based on short lived memes.
