SEO contests?

I've thought of posting something like this for a while. Older guys will remember the Nigritude Ultramarine seo contest from back in the day, and it'd be fun to see a WF pissing contest for bragging rights, best ranked site for a new, nonsense keyword term after 30 days takes the pot/bragging rights.

I'll throw a few hundred bucks towards a contest if others will contribute something, might get enough interest to actually see which of the bad-ass WF SEOers can rise to the top.

That's the thing, no one will join just for the fun of it, people need to make money. If you charge a fee to get in + have a few sponsors, there is potential for great prizes. The way I see it the Top-3 or Top-5 should win something, to make it more interesting and give everyone a chance to make it on the podium.

If the prize was guaranteed, then yes. But I wouldn't work my ass off to attempt it. Beating everyone at WF in an SEO contest definetly wouldn't be easy, would take tons of work, and I doubt I could do it. I could def. make top 10 but #1? Eh...highly doubtful.

lol anyone remember when that v7n forum would throw those really big seo contests? One time Jon waraas and I entered one two weeks before it ended (it was a 6 month contest) we both won it, first and second place. Then they refused to give us the prizes cus there was some unwritten rule about you can't win if you come in at the last second. Then they didn't even give the people below us the prizes.

It was fun but seo contests are still a fuckin joke and a waste of time you could be putting into making your money sites rank.
 
Ya, I think we can improve on the V7N and Dark Blue contests a bit. if guarantees are what peeps are worried about, I'll guarantee $500 to the winner, no matter when they enter the contest :)

Somebody else jump in with some guaranteed prizes to make it all worthwhile, lets get this ball rolling.

Prospective "Rules" - Open to Debate
1. 30 day timeframe, #1 ranking at midnight 30 days later (no matter what happens to rank afterwards)
2. to win you have to be a WF member, and have your username somewhere visible on the site you enter
3. All's fair, do whatever you want, just be #1 30 days later.
4. Should be a new random gibberish phrase that has 0 results currently (like nigritude ultramarine and V7n elursrebmem were)
5. Has to be a new registered domain? (not sure on this one yet, thoughts?)

This is definitely a great contest for exposure especially for service providers in the BST section. It will also help those who are constantly purchasing service package to get a better idea who are the REAL gurus that can provide results.

OK, so far we got 500 from me, lifetime SerpIQ account from dchuk (which is a neat tool BTW if you haven't checked it out yet, take a look) and ??? from Eli for 2nd place (maybe 30 minutes of professional erotic massage from him and Tom perhaps?).

Who else wants to chip in something to the goodie bag of prizes? :)
 
so I happen to have some real ninja tricks so sahll I let med pride stand in my way and use it on a site that everyone can analyize in public and see exactly what I did. Well why dont I just go to th street and give my keys the the first bum I see?

No shit? I've never used v7n...was never a fan. But I remember that contest, shit was a big deal. Didn't they pretty much build the entire forum off the back of that contest? Far as I can remember they were a shit forum before that contest. During the contest they were the talk of the town.
 
Sounds like fun, I will throw like $100-300, into the pool, I think slme random junk word is not the way to go. We need something with medium compition,

I also think the domain names need to have nothing to do with the keyword you are trying to rank for, it would be unfair advantage imo,

Also and some people may not think this is a good idea but I think 60-90 days would be better

On the management end if wf would make a sub forum for it and maybe one of us make a site to post, track and give general info about what is going on would be cool.

Announcemnet in the bst, and organize the suppliers, make a system where if you use one it would show. On your project on the site or something,

Organizing and maintaining it how I envision it would be a bitch, but fun for sure,

lol @ the chump change in this thread, why would somebody that knows what they're doing put in their time and effort for what's being thrown as a pittance as a one-time 'prize' for something they could make every day with the same effort.

how about we have aaron and mont go at it and represent some people here with cases and see who is 'better' and who 'wins' for a $500 prize.. oh wait...

how about ya'll find out if the people you want in the contest will accept a retainer to join..

putting service providers against each other doesn't prove anything, there's not just one service provider you can go to that will bring you the results you want/need.. it's called a strategy you need to know what you need/want from them, not all providers offer the same service. you need to know your game plan and strategize it and go to them for execution. you need to know what you're going to them for, there are too many variables involved, it's a science. you should know the formula but, you go to them for the elements.

Part of me wants to make fun of you for being an internet tough guy with the usual "baller" attitude. The other half of me knows you're right. I feel very weird about this situation.

I probably won't bother entering unless the prize money hits 5 figs but to me, this isn't the route to go.

1. Rewards the guys quick on the draw enough to get EMDs while penalizing everybody else.
2. Doesn't replicate real world SEO challenges, as there won't be the usual obstacles needed to be overcome; authority sites, aged sites, sites using shell links, aged EMDs, etc.
3. Going after an existing hard SERP with brand new regged domains would ensure that nobody got an EMD and a full gamut of SEO factors would have to be implemented. Would probably have to run the time from 30 days out to 60 days unless you wanted to reward somebody for breaking top 50 though.
