1. How do you feel about that first deal? $1 in perpetuity doesn't that great to me for the business owners. They only needed $150k and they had Tim Ferris on the line... why didn't he just loan them the money? Or hell, go to a bank? I guess they were going after the experience of the Sharks.

2. What was her business again? Would bang.

3. Wasn't interesting enough for a brick and mortar ice cream shop. Part of an ice cream store experience is the samples.

4. Excellent presentation. Great product. Loved the 'sweetening of the deal' at the end. Nice negotiation. I'd even consider buying them myself. I probably would've tried to get Mark and Lori to go in on the deal together.

Thanks for reminding me, gonna watch it now. In case anyone else is interested:

The second pitch was not only hot, didnt expect her to have the smarts to counter offer Mark and get it. Impressed.

This was a rip-off a British show, Dragon's Den. Here is a hilarious mashup of the show:

I felt the opposite about this...I thought it would be a GREAT retail experience. I've got kids, and could see them going absolutely crazy for something like this. To see their own ice cream being made on the spot, and with all of the fog from the liquid nitrogen....kids would LOVE that. Heck, I'd love it.

You could be right. I feel like it could be a nightmare though with the ordering process... imagine a family with 3 kids going through trying to come up with their own ice cream creation on the spot opposed to just picking flavors. I know they said 30 seconds from start to finish, but I don't buy that. If I were a parent and it took half an hour to get ice cream (when there's a line in the store) and I had a ton of other things to do, I'd avoid that store like the plague.

Well, let's say instead of their 30 second estimate, it takes 4x as long...2 minutes each. x3 kids, that's just 6 minutes to entertain and serve 3 kids...not bad at all, imo.

The way it is setup, I don't think it would take any longer than a typical order at a place such as cold stone.

How to order Sub Zero Ice Cream
1. Choose your base
2. Choose your Flavor
3. Choose your Mix-ins
4. ENJOY!

That's pretty much how most other ice cream shops operate in terms of customer orders. And, their sales were estimated at what for the current year....4 million?

You should see some of the gelato ships in Vancouver and the line ups in the summer. Just massively insane. Though one of our stores won best gelato in the world last year.

Watching the demo almost wanted me to see if I could get that added to my shop. I think they have it set up wrong. You have to do it so you have tasters.

You have your standard setup but your there making them in small 2 or 1 litre batches. You are making those as needed. People line up take there samples everyone is happy. But what you do is have say a set of 5 or so that you can do on the spot for people. 2 crazy flavours and then 3 standards. Just thinking about it again. The Asian tourists and everyone else would go ape shit for something like that. If I had a bigger place I would definitely look into this. Dammit would be easy to run. Everything could be pre measured and ready to go. Less waste.

Oh well

While I like the idea there's no way a kid is going to pick out his flavors in 2 min. My 6 year old would take 2 min to just contemplate each flavor.

All across Thailand we have a slight variation on this ice cream already. I had some the other night, it was pretty interesting.

They start off with a few different base flavors and let you pick any kind of added stuff you can dream of, from green tea to rum raisin... Mix it together, and then throw it on this round disc of metal that freezes it instantly. Then they scoop that into rolls and shove it in a cup... And then any fruit you want on top of those rolled cream-flakes.

They proudly proclaim that it's a Thai invention... In the end it's still ice cream, but I like the vast variety of flavors you can get out of it. (Mine was a blueberry cream base with rum raisin, covered in cherries and fresh blueberries.)

Have you never been to a coldstone? It takes forever to push a family of 4 through, yet the place is always busy.
