Should I start promoting adult stuff?

So it's 3:09 AM, and I'm thinking -- "Sex sells, this shit isn't going away". Most adult payouts are monthly rebills right? I like that idea.

So I'm thinking of promoting adults -- but I wouldn't know where to start.

I think I would have to register for a new web host that accepts adult materials, (cough Zensix?) and do some shady SEO for my web sites.

So what do you guys think? :D

Not exactly the easiest niche to get into, better have some dedication and resources. I use to have basically an automatically updating site (kind of like a splog but much more relevant) I never made a dime off that thing. I'm also not sure quite how much money really is to be made with some kind of video site.

My thoughts are the only good way to make money is a featured site, where there's one girl your selling webcam shows and rebills for content.
 
My first job out of college back in 1996 was with an adult internet company in Vancouver and I've still got a few friends in the biz.

One of them was making pretty decent money, maybe 10k a month, off of hairy gay men and midgets. Specialty niches do well.

I've got a small collection of adult domains that I want to develop but can never seem to find the time.

Damn I like your taste in women. I'm dabbling in porn just because one day while joking around I came up with a really great domain name for a particular asian niche. So far I've put up a blog but no moniez yet, Asian could be a little competitive.
 
As someone who has been promoting adult since 2000, I would advise against it. Do YOU pay for porn? Most people are catching on that shit is free now.

I know guys who used to be rolling in it, that are now begging for $10 / hour grunt work because they didnt diversify. I'm not saying its impossible, and there are still people making money, but it is very hard and it will only get harder.

You can sign up to pussycash as an affiliate and promote adult things just like you would normal stuff.

Payouts are quite high too.
 
Conversion rates in adult have crashed and are still crashing. Some programs convert worse than 1:1000 for me.

I think sell pornography in this economy can be good. Since people no have money for prostitute maybe masturbate to porn as alternative.

However I think many download pornography illegal with torrent and no pay so maybe have find right niche with no torrent available.

Youporn, redtube and pornhub have raised the "free" bar so fucking high, I would think that only fetishists pay for pr0n anymore.
 
ratios are generally dropping for adult... it sucks... luckily for me I've got my fingers in some mainstream projects and that's helped out a lot... I pity the fools that didn't diversify...

as others have said, if you're going to do it, pick some strange micro-niche shit that's hard to come by... really the stranger the better... you want to promote something that they can't get on youporn, etc...

even cams aren't immune... there are a lot of cam rips floating around the surfer forums these days and free cam sites like cam4.com are all cutting into the cam biz :(

anybody interested in ratios, well I posted some of mine for 2007 here Poto’s Affiliate Programs My Ratios tho I haven't updated it for 2008 yet, almost everything dropped in 2008 and so far 2009 is looking worse... I may not bother to update it and have been considering scaling back my adult stuff to a bare minimum...

don't get me wrong, there's still plenty of money to be made in adult, but it's not easy...
