I find it crazy that the guy lived in San fran. I figured it was some eastern european or something.

But then again San Fran is the only place I've ever been offered acid when trying to buy herb, the guy didn't have herb, he only had acid, but introduced me to someone with herb...
 
This could easily be a honeypot.. I assume with the arrest they obtain the whole backend code for SR. I would 100% expect the DEA to create one after the fall of SR anyway.

EDIT: Although it has been announced on the official SR forums so who knows :)

the new SR has been confirmed via multiple old vendors and members PGP.

Its legit and not a honeypot FYI. Lets hope the new DPR has their OpSec on lock.

remember that it took the FBI/DEA/DoJ/ICE 2.5 years to finally shut down SR for the 1st time. Lets see how long this one takes ;)

“This new website – launched barely a month after Federal agents shut down the original Silk Road -- underscores the inescapable reality that technology is dynamic and ever-evolving and that government policy needs to adapt accordingly. Rather than play ‘whack-a-mole’ with the latest website, currency, or other method criminals are using in an effort to evade the law, we need to develop thoughtful, nimble and sensible federal policies that protect the public without stifling innovation and economic growth. Our committee intends to have that conversation – among others - at our hearing this month on virtual currency.”

Chairman Carper and Dr. Coburn’s committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs began a formal inquiry into virtual currencies in April 2013. In August 2013 Chairman Carper and Dr. Coburn wrote to the Departments of Treasury, Homeland Security, and Justice, as well as the Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodities Futures Trading Commission, and the Federal Reserve.

Except in order for it to be effective, they'd have to distribute a shit ton of drugs without it being obvious, and there's a ton of distributors on the SR.

Then, there's the fact that all your personally identifiable info should be encrypted during the transaction.

It'd be quite an operation to honeypot this in an effective way. I'd be extremely surprised if it was. (After the initial positive reviews, proofs of delivery, etc, begin to be shown).

If they were going to honeypot it, they'd let someone else create it, and just create loads of distributor accounts.. Even then it's hard to bust someone for the drugs, "oh i have no idea why someone would order that to my address..". The police would have to send you the drugs, then sit outside your house waiting for them to arrive, then search with a warrant. It'd be the least cost effective thing ever. Any kind of operation like this they'd only ever do for large quantities. If you're buying a few g of hash/coke/mdma then it's really not worth the effort on their part.

Before they sell anything most of these guys give away samples either cheap or free to a couple dozen people for a review thread in the forums. So they'd have to set up accounts, establish a review thread of the forums, send out drugs, wait for reviews, then start selling in mass to make it worth their time. And like you said, theirs the whole plausible deniability of getting a package in the mail containing drugs. I doubt that's going to happen just to bust some users.

thank you, at least someone knows what the fuck is up.

and to OP your computer is infected. yes we can tell by looking at a screenshot. look closer and you will see.

just the fact that you attempted to put the .onion URL into your address bar unencrypted and over plain text puts your name on a huge list.

if you want to buy drugs over the internet i'd follow my friends advice here, except I'd take that computer in your car and find someones house with unprotected wifi and tunnel in through there. also add PGP as a layer for all communicaitons as well as a protected email address with SSL on a public server.

50% of this is knowing how to use technology
50% is just being smart and learning how to put physical layers between you and the technology
