Singularity

I think it will happen, but it just won't be as soon as all those old fucks hope it will be. We'll all be dead and gone before tech gets that advanced.

And just how far has technology come in the last 20 years? Seriously, in '97 400Mhz processors were the norm. In 2005 3Ghz wasn't uncommon and then a year or so later we had the first major push of smartphones.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised to hear of retinal implants within the next decade, but realistically it'd be 30 or so years before it sees major adoption.

Why not? It shuts down the human central nervous system...

That's a hell of a big EMP. I wasn't aware that they had any negative effects on biological organisms. From what I understand they destroy solid state electronic components pretty well, and disrupt wireless communications.

I skimmed the thread not sure if this was mentioned but..

We already have a symbiotic relationship with technology. The problem with the way most people envision singularity is through the lens of our current technology/abilities. It's not necessary that we'll have implanted robotic arms or prosthetic limbs as we know them today..

The whole reason singularity isn't here yet is because we don't have that technology, and therefore can't quite grasp how it will unfold, in the same way a few hundred years ago no one could have possibly predicted that we would be flying in massive steel airplanes in the sky.

The way I see it, nano technology may just be the driver we need to propel us into the next stage of evolution.

I guess I should clarify that the only tests that ever produced enough EMP discharge to knock out a human electric system were all Nuclear... Such as if a person was standing just beyond the range of deadly heat from a nuclear blast... There is a short range thereafter that the EMP will be deadly too.

But I'd expect that by the time we create Von Neumann machines (grey goo) we'll be able to create that much EMP mechanically.

lol what about the technology we don't even know about that the government and military use. They got shit we don't even know about. Most of the aircraft you 'see' on tv was designed in the early 80's / 90's.

Neither do the people that want to track you.

You already willingly pay for and carry a personal tracking device with you at all times.

What could be more perfect?

Thats why god invented the throw away phone. Learn to embrace it.

^^immensely ironic

This is the reason I don't own a smart phone. Need to go one step farther and get the trac phone.

Anyone else find it Ironic that the throw away phone is the one named "TracPhone?"

Yeah, I saw that right away. My conspiracy theory is that these are bait for the people who don't want to be tracked and are specially designed to optimize tracking.

Looking forward to uploading my consciousness into a robot. It's a brainfuck trying to think how it would work though.

Problem: Uploading would still result in YOUR consciousness dying while the upload gets to live forever.

Solution: We'll teleport our brain into a pre-built neural network of nanobots that's catered to our brain. They'll connect to, and work in conjunction with our brain cells and transfer ourselves into a robotic exoskeleton.

These scientists seem to have the idea that you would live on as normally, in the uploaded world. I digress from that way of thinking because I don't think it's reasonable to assume you will resume life from your new consciousness in this digital form.

IE. Your CONSCIOUSNESS might live on, it will be exactly like you, in every sentence and thought, but it's not you because you're dead.

EDIT: To clarify more... I mean there would be NO possible way to even tell if you were really you or not.. because it is you.. except it's not. So therefore there's no way to even determine that your alive in your new digital world. The best way I can thinking to describe it at this hour is think of the movie Ghost... He just died and he's trying to get her attention saying "Hey, I'm right here, not down there!" But no, she sees him there and it looks exactly like him, so it's him to her.

I just cannot even fathom how they could upload YOU, YOURSELF so YOU could continue on in a digital world. Anyways, that's just my thoughts on it. Seriously, hooray for all these advancements but I feel like if you get a chip in your brain the government is going to have an executive order forcing all makers of these to force RFID inside, without the knowledge of the public for "terrorism" safety (but hopefully they're using some other fear mongering technique by then or... maybe not)

When I think of this shit it's really cool in essence, but someone always has to go and fucking ruin a good thing. Government will be all over this shit demanding to know what every single one of us is thinking and seeing at all times making it the epitome of privacy invasion and I see no point living at all after this point.

I don't mind bionic prosthetics, but I don't see the point for storing personal tracking or transaction information inside your person. Yes, it's easier for you to buy and sell or get rescued, but it's also quite easy for anyone to monitor you as well.

Has no one seen Minority Report?
never underestimate the stupidity of most humans.

LOL! Teleporting destroys the original too... There is simply no way for your consciousness to be transferred into another recepticle of any type without literally taking your brain out and implanting it there.

Otherwise you will be destroyed one way or another and duplicated elsewhere.
