Thats right fucking sitepoint, I'm never over there for the forum, but every once and while I'll head over there to check out the market place and see if I can grab up a cheap website for an upcoming series on my blog so anyway, I found this site and the owner said it gets 15,000 unique visitors per month.

So I did my research and found the domain was only 12 days old (WHOIS info), 1 backlink, PR 0, and this person was asking a starting bid of $200 bucks, after asking for traffic stats the owner provided them, which only showed 100 unique over a period of 10 days, I was like WTF man, you actually want someone to fall for this shit.

I left a message saying I did my research, found your site is only 12 days old, 1 backlink, pr 0, your visitor stats are a lie, 15,000 unique turned out to be 100 unique over a 10 day period which could have easily been faked with a $12 dollar traffic buy. Do you care to explain any of this to the potential buyers?

That was last night, I woke up this morning to see if he/she responded and I found that all my QUALITY asking questions had been removed for some reason, no explaination, no fucking private message from admins, no nothing, they just removed them for pointing out obvious facts.

I'm glad I never bought anything from there marketplace before, probably would have had one fuck of a time getting anything done, talk about bad business.

This has been happening for a long time now. Just do your research before buying but no comments.

It isn't the admins that deleted your message, but the user himself, (which is a lame system). The user should be able to flag a message instead of being able to delete everything he wants.

If anything, I think it will get worse! SP seem reluctant to act!

Here’s a scam that is spreading and has surely caught many out in terms of buying links and sites: buy a ton of .orgs (less than a dollar each from estdomains.com) and 301-redirect all domains to PR 5 & 6 websites. Wait for a G update and the .orgs pick up PR 5/6. Then sell links from these sites or even the sites themselves. Very vigilant webmasters will see through the scam but I suspect most wont.

I also think Kfleming hit the nail on the head, Jon should jump in now and create the best website marketplace on the Net - without all the fraud.

Just imagine what you can do if you're the seller.

I exchanged PMs with one of SP's owners back when they released the system, and I clearly explained why giving sellers the ability to delete posts at will would be crap... no response. It just seems like they just can't be bothered to deal with it.

I don't think I have been to sitepoint in over 2 years. Many there have a holier than though attitude and the site itself is just full of ads and crap.

why get mad about something you dont know much about?
sitepoint admins dont delete your message but the person running the auction does...

Mad no.....I'm not mad.... but now that I realize the users have the ability to delete messages, thats just plain stupidity, why have such a hackable system.

wickedfire marketplace.. I like!

I also like.........fuck I'll help build it if it gets done.......that includes building the blogging section, I'll take my time to build that for this place......FREE of charge

how but you suck one lesbiandude?

aequitas made the very reasonable assumption that the seller himself wouldn't be able to delete posts in his own thread. while he may have jumped to this conclusion, the administration is who put the shit system in place that allows sellers to delete posts criticizing or in this case blatantly exposing their fraudulent claims/activity.

this is so shady, a similar situation would be a seller on ebay having the power to delete neg feedback. which obv would be just as ridiculous as this sitepoint marketplace system ( i have to admit, i did not know that it worked this way).

wf ebay - i like it!

it should be fairly easy to come up with 5 or 6 attributes that are easily verified - put them in the form - automate and away you go!

Jon should do this, Jon should do that. You people are never fuckin happy. LOL. Lets push the date back to 2010.

That's what happens when you pay to advertise, Sitepoint is a mis-managed dump that is run by greedy idiots.

Sitepoint took all signature links down, I jumped all over them for it too, they did this to force members to buy ads in their marketplace.

PS: I just went over to Sitepoint, it looks like they enabled signatures again, the hot heat got to them and they were losing traffic too fast, when they started charging for their marketplace DP traffic tripled.

To play the devil's advocate (hey! one of my good friends -- who happens to be an ex-SP admin coded the thing :p) -- SP has a system in the marketplace where the seller can himself moderate the comments.

In some ways it is useful as it allows you to instantly get rid of thread trashers without waiting for a moderator doing it but it is often abused like your example.

The only thing that I can say is that SP should be LOT more proactive in banning members like these. But oh well, they lose thirty bucks for the listing then. :p

I completely understand the coding aspect of it and I completely understand how much it would cut down on the mod jobs, they've got lots to deal with as is but the comments thing is just one aspect that can be too easily abused and to me its an obvious fix but then again I don't run the site nor do I want to, actually if I did run the site I would probably destroy the forum and put up an animation of it burning to the bottom of your browser and then fix up the marketplace.

a marketplace where the seller can remove unwanted buyers' messages...
this is just a system to help scammers

If only they had an itrader or something like that. But hey, look at the positive side. We are having a list of things that should NOT be done at WF marketplace whenever it is rolled out. :P
