And then after a little bit of ridicule from your fellow Wickedfire posters look at how your tone changed:
Peer pressure is a motherfucker.
Why would you not care if the government wants to listen in on you? My guess is you wouldn't have said this a few years ago, but you (and a lot of other people apparently) have been slowly conditioned to just accept what's inevitable. Why would you be so quick to abdicate your own freedoms when you know you haven't done anything to warrant it? Because a handful of strangers on the Internet made you feel like a conspiracy nut. Grow some balls. Here I'll do it for you.
Well it was really my stance since post 1. I was talking about the surveillance in my living room the whole time. That's what my rant was about. So I didn't back away from anything due to peer pressure - not that i'm immune to doing so.
Here's what I think of all types of surveillance.
1) Active surveillance of a target with Warrant - I got almost no prob with this. There are real criminals and even though this can be abused I'm prob ok with this concession.
2) Active surveillance of a target without Warrant - This sucks and I'd vote against it, maybe sign some shit, support new parties, etc.
3) Passive widespread targetless surveillance of society by recording phone/internet/emails/etc - Sucks about 1000x more than #2. This is scary ass shit. I'd easily vote against shit, sign shit, support new parties, rallys, etc. I am aware this shit is going on right now in full force (Thanks Snowden) and should be doing more to protest it - but I've always hated activism and i'm a lazy piece of shit.
4) Non-forced Passive widespread targetless surveillance IN OUR HOMES by recording voice and/or video - Sucks about 1000x more than #3. This is the Samsung tv and this could be what happens with newer cooler tech I'd like to use. But in the end my response would be the same as above but I'd also stop using many technologies. Would I support a bloody revolution over it? I might support it but not fight in it because this is optional shit that I can take into my house for fun or convenience. It sucks bad that I'd have to live like the Amish.
5) Forced Passive widespread targetless surveillance IN OUR HOMES by recording voice and/or video - Sucks about 1000x more than #4. This also includes if all of society is being monitored at their home 24/7 w/out knowing about it. This is my line in the fucking sand. If we couldn't get it to stop I'd fully support a bloody revolution at this point.. no joke. I'd even be glad to participate in the shooting of these corporate/government slave masters.
But UG, you're definitely right about how they're pushing this shit on us gradually so it's harder to see and fight. They are also extremely consistent at it while we're not consistent fighting it because we're busy with our jobs and lives. The biggest reason we'll lose is because of newer generations. The newer generations give less and less of a shit about privacy.. so they won't bother fighting for it. It will be 'normal' for them to be surveilled.
