Never really had this happen before, but somebody ripped my entire landing site, text, graphics and all. Anything I can do about it? What does everyone else do - just let it go?

Domain is whoisguarded etc.

Contact the host, registrar, affiliate company if any, and if say you have an image you bought from istockphoto contact them as well. Worked like a charm last time this happened to me. I wouldn't bother trying to contact the guy first, just go full out and have him deal with the bs from all sides. Of course you will need some proof. I submitted a short letter with the contact info for my writer who wrote the content and that did the trick.

it's hilarious... copied exactly except for the title, they pasted some shitty arial font logo over my logo.

Why pay for your own landing page when you can rip off the one you know is working? There's not much you can do to guard against this type of thing unfortunately.

Is he competing for the same keywords as you now also?

you should embed watermarked stuff on any graphix. make it hard to remove (i.e. overlapping other stuff). Usually your site name is the thing to use.

Yeah something tiny and only visible by zooming would work well, that would be great proof next time this happens :)

Quit whining. The only way this will hurt you is if you waste your time trying to "punish" this guy. You could working on YOUR campaign. Time is valuable, don't waste it on some douche.

Legal threats. Send them both to his host and him. Generally he will take the page down then his host will delete his hosting

I had one ripped and they even left my tracking code on there. I watched it and saw some traffic coming from a profile on a social site, I signed up and stated if you want to copy my landing page at least remove my tracking code and re-write the content. Thanks.

Here's the best idea. Build a new one and move on. You'll waste more time and energy caring about it that could be spent on making a fresh one.

Contacting the host will have the most profound effect. Not sure if contacting the registrar will do much.

Make sure to appear serious, and write as "we" (not "I"). Mention your lawyer(s), your estimated daily losses, etc. If his webhost is reputable - they will take action.

I run a hosting company myself, and have had a couple of inquiries like this one.

some fuck head stole all the good posts (that i wrote) for my forum (We are fighting over the same market)

I threated legal action and posted Tub Girl on his board to make up for it (his board is far more mature adult oriented than mine....

You could reserve a domain that could pass as a law firm (for example, AndersonSteinbreckandAssociates.com). Then, send an email to everyone mentioned above (registrar, host, thief, PPC engine) and cc: "Ben Steinbreck" at your "law firm." Mention taking legal action if a deadline is not met to your satisfaction, etc.

I know that probably sounds cheesy, but I'll bet that would actually work on a few thieves.

But, as Smaxor and others implied, don't spend too much time on chasing people down. As soon as Thief #1 goes away, Thief #2 will pop up.

Do what you can and move on.

it's amazing how many times my landing page designs have been copied.

"imitation is the highest form of flattery"
