I heard it wasn't against the TOS, although I may be wrong, it is great placement if you are just skimming through and click on the first one, the owner should have some more sprinkled throughout

Over on Johnchow.com, he showed how to make an ad like the one above. Google told him it violated the TOS, specifically "Publishers are not permitted to display Google ads in a manner that may mislead users, causing them to mistake Google ads for site content."

I think its a pretty neat trick though.
