Supreme Court slowly killing 'Obamacare'

"The justices' questions in Tuesday's hearing carried deeply serious implications but were sometimes flavored with fanciful suggestions. If the government can force people to buy health insurance, justices wanted to know, can it require people to buy burial insurance? Cellphones? Broccoli?"

LOL, this is just a reminder of how the court (and most politicians) are in denial of the fact that people are already being forced to pay for thousands of things. Do the justices really think their own salaries come from donations?

Without the public option, Obamacare was a joke from the beginning.

If that public option was included in the bill though, assuming it was managed properly, then more than likely your monthly health insurance would be lower right now.

Exactly what I was thinking. This would open the door for future laws to regulate and force us to purchase something. We need to look at the big picture and understand that what happens now does not go away, especially with a high profile court case such as this.

Pretty soon we are going to be forced to purchase tracking chips up our ass just because its the law. To be honest I think we need to purge all incumbents in office and get some new people. I can tell you that my CA reps are doing shit to help CA.

lack of freedom? are you serious? Obamacare makes you a free person because now you can actually get health insurance without having to worry about paying for health care and putting food on the table.

health care should be one of the basic liberties that we should have to stress over and to say other wise is cruel and inhumane.

We should take care of the our own. We wouldn't have to pay twice the taxation if the wealth 1% would just pay their fair share. but no they "deserve" to have a better life than the rest of us at our own expense it absolutely embarrassing that the wealthy elite would behave in such a manner.

jesus h fucking christ

so you think it's okay that insurance doesn't cover a cancer patient because their old provider gave them the boot and no new insurance company will take them. yeah you're human. . . . humanly pathetic that is

If they can't pay for treatment then people can give it to them if they chose. They should not be forced by law and prison to give it to them.

The Associated Press: Justices signal deep trouble for health care law

I live in CA and if they kill Obamacare do you guys think that this can set precedent to get rid of the mandated CA law for all drivers to carry insurance on their vehicles?
No. States are allowed to have mandates. If it is not a power the federal government has, it is a power the state government has. This is why Massachusets can have a health care mandate without problems, but the federal government cannot.
The other end of it is that the health care mandate is the first mandate you have to pay simply for breathing. Everything else is related to something optional: car ownership, where you live, etc.

I pay 33% of my personal income when most people pay NOTHING. My neighbor across the street has 7 kids, all on free government insurance - MINE DON'T QUALIFY FOR THE PROGRAM BECAUSE MY INCOME IS TOO HIGH! I pay for my kids insurance and then I get to pay pay for his kids insurance.

He drives a NICER CAR than I DO! I have a six year old car that I paid cash for used.

His wife doesn't work so they have 9 family members on one income and qualify for food stamps. They are Muslims and don't believe in birth control. It's like a baby factory or "captive breading program" that the rest of us pay for. The guys yard looks like crap.

I get up every morning at 5:00 and work sometimes til late at night. How dare you be embarrassed at how I live and spend my own money. What gives you the right?

Yes, I take two vacation cruises a year and I have my own boat -I don't even have time to use my boat - but I have them because I EARNED THEM.

Yes I DESERVE a better life than the guy across the street, because he is a MOOCH that thinks he is somehow entitled to live off my efforts.

I tip my hat to you sir. You are what made this country what it once was.

Living in Boston, we've had universal health care and the individual mandate ever since Romney passed it back when he was governor. I can honestly tell you: It's not that big a deal.

I pay about $200/month for a basic insurance plan that covers pretty much all my costs when I visit the doctor, plus one dental cleaning a year. I see the doctor 2-3 times a year and I pretty much break even, and I don't have to worry about being crushed by debt if I end up in the hospital.

The level of hysteria about the individual mandate is insanely out of proportion to reality.

You don't get it, the door opened long ago. You are already forced to purchase things, including cell phones and broccoli for other people.

forced to pay into Medicare = "derp herp"
forced to pay into Social Security = "derp herpp"
forced to pay for statues, national parks, sports stadiums, Obama's toilet paper, health care for people in Iraq = "derpppp herppp"

forced to pay for your own health insurance = "OMG! SO ANGRY, MUST GO PROTEST!"

No, because we have seen this before.

Today they mandate a cheap minimum policy. Tomorrow they decide that the policy cost is going to be based on income. The next year they raise my premiums and lower everyone else's, the year after that they raise my premiums, and on and on and on. Pretty soon I'm paying for my insurance and ten other peoples.

Then when I get sick they will decide my medical issue does not justify the expense and I get screwed. Why? because they spent the money I put into the system to pay for a sex-change operation for a drug addict in San Francisco, or maybe breast implants for a prostitute in Uruguay, or hair transplant surgery for a guy in Baltimore that just could not suffer through male-pattern-baldness and lobbied his congressman to get the government to cover the tab.

Before we had government in healthcare it cost $85.00 to have a child, now its $14,000. And the people that have the child now pay $500 of the cost and the balance gets put on a credit card that our children are stick with.

I want government completely out of healthcare. When it was an open market people where much, much better off.

What pisses me off the most is that if you sent this note to the press as you grabbed a machine gun and cut that whole family down today, the press would of course report on it all as a Racial or Religious "Hate Crime."

There is NO WAY to get justice when fighting this situation in the USA... They are intent on keeping all problems between Races, Religions, and Political Parties, only... Anything else would smell too much like the truth and wake some sheeple up.

You are such a damn sheep. How did you find your way onto this forum??

"It's not that big a deal" tells us that you clearly aren't aware of the bigger situation. The fed is taxing you to pay for others' healthcare (Including Iraqi citizens!) and then the state is Forcing you to pay for you own healthcare too. So essentially, you're saying that "It's not that big a deal to be forced to pay for Iraqis, my welfare-prone neighbors, and my own healthcare all at the same time in this, the most expensive healthcare country on the planet."

Tool. I bet you vote for Romney, too.

And have you factored in all of the comparables, like what these services would have cost you if there wasn't a mandate? Of course not. That would take individual thought.

I don't have to worry about being crushed by debt if I end up in the hospital.
THERE IT IS; The reason for your lack of thought. You care so much about security that you're ok with blindness towards Justice.

"Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither."

It only seems that way to those with no concern for their liberty, and those with no ability to see the bigger economic picture.

You are apparently both.

What do you think happens to the money you currently pay for private insurance? Right, you're paying for other peoples' hospital bills.

At least with the public option, the government could have came in as another competitor within the private industry, squished some heads, and got prices lower for you guys.
