Surface RT, iPad... or just a small Laptop?

No matter how many reviews I read about Surface VS iPad, I still can't make a decision... The Surface RT price drop to $349 makes it more attractive I must say... but it's still Microsoft and people are bitching about Windows 8 everywhere.

I need a tablet I can actually work on while traveling. I need to be able to plug it to my iPhone to get the internet when I'm in the middle of nowhere. I'm not a "touch" type of guy so I will definitely need a keyboard...

What's my fellow gay webmasters thoughts?

If you need a device where you can do actual work, then get a regular laptop. If you are just going to check stuff and write emails, then yes, you can get a tablet, any of them are good to navigate or write something.
 
Tablets are good for doing basic work like checking email, editing docs and shit like that. In that case, both the tabs would be good for you. But you said that you'd need a keyboard.. So go for the Surface (if you can deal with the lesser app population). But even then, the surface on your lap is damn uncomfortable.

If i were you, i'd go for a smaller laptop, like the Acer Aspire or the Asus VivoBook, which comes at a slightly higher cost. Its perfect for travelling. Its thin as hell and is only 11. something inches or so. If you have money to spend, then the Air would be a brilliant choice. The reason why i'd go for the smaller laptop is because then, you wouldnt have limitations, like how certain things cant be done in a tab and you wait to get to the desktop/laptop to finish it.

If you're going for the tab, i suggest you go with the Surface. I had both and i found them to be a waste of money after i bought the macbook.
 
I'm technologically hibernating until Windows 8 is a distant memory. Get a laptop and put something other than win 8 and you're all set.
 
That first girl is insanely hot....

iPads are not great productivity tools. You can check emails and analytics, and bang out a short email. They are fantastic toys though. Great for watching movies, playing games, reading books, surfing the web, etc.

Android sucks for gaming.

Windows 8 is a joke. Pass on that shit.

If you want to be productive get a laptop.

You could buy a 200-300 USD laptop to bang around with AND an iPad = win.
 
I hope you're not serious about the surface, but if you are I read recently MS is trying to boost sales. They either just did or are very soon going to cut the price by $150.

Go with an Macbook or ultrabook.
 
What kind of work are you planning on doing with it? The ipad is pretty much a joke. I travel alot and rarely do I use it for work. It's a pain in the ass to type on (sure you can get a keyboard). The lack of file structure is pretty much a joke. Sure you can use apps like dropbox, but then you still have to actually connect to the internet to get them locally. With that said if Apple put an SD slot in it I would completly change much of my opinion. The ipad is nice to browse the web, read books, and play games. The funny thing is I always take my ipad with me but it usually stays in my bag. Anytime I want to get anything done I do it on my phone. If you do decide on the Ipad you may want to consider getting the mini (if you travel alot).

If it were me I would probably get a new MB Air. Or if the budget isnt there, get a ultrabook. I wouldnt touch that piece of shit surface w/ a 10 foot poll (completly biased opinion backed by zero personal experiance w/ the surface)
 
Ipad is for media consumption. Not really to get 'work' done besides the occasional email or six.

Personally, love Windows 8 and Microsoft Surface. HATE Microsoft RT - completely neutered version of Windows 8 that doesn't have as vibrant of a market/app place yet.

For the type of money you want to spend, stay with a laptop.
