Switching from windows to mac...good decision?

Try it and if you like it better switch.

OSX is a solid system because it's almost pointless to write a trojan or virus for it. If you want your message to be heard you target windows. If OSX was more widely used than windows the majority of them would be wrote for OSX.

You say it's pointless but correct me if I'm wrong, the Mac's market share has definitely gone up in the past few years so it may not be as pointless now or perhaps some time in the future?

I got a MBP less than 2 months ago. So far, I've been very pleased with it. I haven't switched completely and don't plan doing so. I'm a PC guy before all.

After my dog chewed my power adapter cable, I was shocked when I realized a new one would set me back $80....$80 for a freakin' power adapter!!

Q2 2008: 3.50 percent
Q1 2008: 3.26 percent
Q4 2007: 3.12 percent
Q3 2007: 3.19 percent

At those rates I don't think that future is anywhere close.

Get a computer that will do what you need it to do. I needed a computer that will run photoshop and dreamweaver. i also wanted an operating system that was unix based. then i wanted a user friendly gui interface. in the end i settled for a mac. not because windows is not that good. vista should be a great OS but its not fully developed to its potential. also linux did not run dreamweaver/photoshop so that was out. plus i find that mac did everything i wanted and in general the operating system is more 'basic' on the userside keeping things simple and clean...its all personal preference...i just got my dad to get a macbook cause im the computer tech in the family and i have had a great expierence with mac, my mom got a laptop recently with vista and it has been nothing but trouble...i run vista on my other desktop and it runs great...although i have to reformat it about every year...i had an ibook for 3 years never even thought about reformating it...never reformated my imac either.

Yes, that was my mistake. My numbers are only for quarterly sales, not total.

I think your numbers are a little off according to Apple's site.
They sold 2,496,000 not 476,000.

And actually Apple held 3.9 percent of Q2 2008 total PC sales

The 476,000 was for retail stores only, you are correct about the number in total. And 11 million ipods, yikes that's a lot of musc players. I must be the only one without an mp3 player.

Also I believe they arenow third in personal computer sales behind Dell.

For OP, there is a strong posibility of revised laptops in the not to distant future, probably using the new intel chip.

Yeah, that is a shit ton of iPods. I like a lot of what apple does, but if theres one thing I hate, it's the fucking iPod. I don't know one person who owns ONE iPod, they all own like 6. Either the battery dies or they have to buy the new model with something slightly different than the last.
