T-Mobile G1

The ONLY reason I haven't picked this phone up yet is because it doesn't support UMA (calling over Wi-Fi), which is easily T-Mobile's strongest point and something I've come to really love.

my 3g is awesome with the iphone, but then again i live in a big city. if you live in bumfuck then buy a repeater

i suppose that's why AT&T's 3G has had entire network failures in cities like NYC, Houston, San Diego and others in the past couple months. And they are getting douched on all over the interwebz for their being total fail.

Certain cities, sure - they've probably been fine. But you're much more likely to experience total failboat with AT&T. No question.

I roll with TMO just for the G1 and also with Verizon because of this:

Yeah, Well with the g1 google doesnt have to physically be right behind me. They know everything i've done, doing and might do without me even knowing.

I am probably going to get one of these. How much does your plan cost subigo? I have never looked into T-Mobile before.

I love my G-1 and prefer t-mobile, they have good customer service and quality coverage. 3G is getting better around here too.

Have they rolled out the 'cupcake' update for the G1, yet? With a virtual keyboard?

I'm in the process of looking for a new phone, but the lack of a software keyboard on the G1 is putting me off at the moment.

:R:

There's an update, but it doesn't have the on-screen keyboard. But the steel browser has one built in and there are other third-party keyboards you can use.

I haven't read up on it lately, but the HTC Magic might be coming to the U.S. and it doesn't have a real keyboard (which is why I wouldn't buy it myself)... It only has an on-screen keyboard:

my bill every month is about $65 all together.

What does your $65 plan include? Is that unlimited?

Just trying to get my ducks in a row because I hate walking into a cellphone store. I always feel like I'm about to get ripped off.

Just posted this from my new G1. Pretty sweet so far in the limited time I have had to mess with it. Dpo you prefer the default broswer or the opera version? What other apps are worth putting on it?

I got my g1 about a month ago, I love it. I've used the IPhone and I hate the on screen keyboard. Switched from ATT and I haven't had a dropped call yet. Seemed to happen all the time with ATT. Not to mention open source is so much better.
