  • had a few months of lessons 2 yrs ago and played a handful of times the past 2 summers..
  • i want to enter my first tournament (begins in 2 days)..
  • tennis coach suggested i enter the intermediate division.
  • tourney director said there's not enough entries into intermediate, and asked if I'd join the open division (guaranteeing I'll get my ass kicked, possibly the first match)

question is, do I join? or wait for a month for the next tournament that will definitely have an intermediate division.

at this point I'm leaning towards joining and just accept I might get demoralized in front of people and not win a single fuckin game.

what would you do?

Not much point in playing tourneys if you're not even an active tennis player, but if you just want to get out and hit some balls and the tourney director wants you to play then go for it. Personally, I'd suggest you'd have more fun and get more out of just rallying with someone who is close to your skill level ...

Play man... that's a good exposure plus you learn a lot from guys better than you rather than competing to other noobs...

While technically some of what you guys are saying is true, the idea is preposterous. If some who took lessons years ago and hasn't played since last summer were to play someone like mGrunin or any other decently active player, they would get absolutely nothing out of it except for an ass whooping (and it wouldn't be fun for either player)
