That's funny I saw this exact list just the other day and made an Amazon order. I picked up...

The 48 Laws of Power - Robert Greene
Getting Things Done - David Allen
Bankable Biz Plans - Edward Rogoff
Web Analytics 2.0 - Avinash Kaushik
Ultimate Sales Letter - Dan Kennedy

I just ordered 4 of those 5 last weekend.....

Great minds think alike.

I dont know what it is about me, but I love reading an actual book, flipping the pages far more than a kindle, ipad, laptop etc. I guess because reading is my time to get away from technology, even if its just for a few minutes.

That's a great list.

I'd add in the E Myth Revisited by Gerber. It was my first introduction to the idea that to truly run a business rather than "own a job" you need to set up your biz as a bunch of systems. I think it's one of the recommended readings in the 4 Hour Work Week if I remember correctly.

Bah.

I'm an avid reader, but if you need 99 business books in your bookshelf to compete with me, I will crush you.

I used to read 4 books before I started any project. I was a pussy and fearful of failure. Now I just launch and learn, and if/when shit gets crazy bad, I find help. Not the other way around.

That said, my next business book is Influence. Been reading lots of fitness/health stuff lately

Edit: And fuck the Millionaire Next Door. That's a pussy book not for people in our industry. I don't advocate being irresponsible, but that's not a book for people who LIVE life.

No Cashvertising? No Negotiating With Giants? Nothing by Ogilvy, Hopkins or Caples?

That's like putting together a list of the best baseball players ever and leaving off Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Hank Aaron. I'm calling list fail on this one. I see a few decent secondary books, but if you ain't up on the real shit, these won't help you.

Agreed.

Some books actually worth reading...

1. The Boron Letters - Gary Halbert
2. Max Money - Gary Halbert
3. Tested Advertising Methods - John Caples
4. The Robert Collier Letter Book - Robert Collier
5. How To Write A Good Advertisement - Vic Schwab
6. The Lazy Man's Way To Riches - Joe Karbo
7. Breakthrough Advertising - Eugene Schwartz
8. Scientific Advertising - Claude Hopkins

and last but not least anything by Jay Abraham and Ben Suarez.

If these don't help you explode your biz or get those creative juices flowing then you're hopeless.

Those are all great books on advertising.

But I think .hack's list of books can apply to advertising but also encompasses other areas of business as well. Good stuff IMO.
