The Band That Changed The World For You

Dream Theater forever

Dream Theater changed my life.
I listen to other bands as well, but nothing will ever come close to how these guys can move me, or can take me up when I am down.

They have songs for every emotion... if you're angry, happy, in sorrow, in joy, content, motivated, relaxed, tense, whatever it is. They are medicine for my mind.

Musically they range vastly from the most thundering drop-heavy riffs, to the most astonishingly beautiful pieces. Like porn for your ears. :D

Here is a piece from their recent epic "The Count of Tuscany"

Enjoy.

Slipknot. Gay as it seems now they dragged me from Will Smith right into metal and eventually into rock and blues.

Eli, if you like melodic death I assume you've listened to At The Gates? They defined the genre. If you haven't already get Slaughter of the Soul, imo the best metal album of the 90s.

I would have to say "The East Clubbers" yep its techno but ive been listening to them for a few years and they can just keep me working till the wee hours of morning.

This is a newer song of theirs, and one of my favorites, tons o' girl on girl action, just for WF.
Enjoy

Beatles
Rolling Stones
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Clapton & Cream
Black Sabbath
Uriah Heap
Jethro Tull
Hendrix

And many many more.. but those stand out from my early school day memories. But if I had to pick one.. it was Led Zep's "Whole Lotta Love"... blew me away when I first heard it... that riff...

No offence to you Eskil but I'm not sure bout Dream Theater, I mean what's with the freemasonry/Illuminati/NWO references in their videos and music? here's some lyrics to one of their newest songs:

This is the new world order
Plague upon our peers
Spreading accusations
Of radical fears

The brotherhood of wisdom
Strength and dignity
Its rituals and secrets
Remain a mystery

Beneath an ever watchful eye
The angels of the temple fly

Turn the key
Walk through the gate
The great ascent
To reach a higher state
A rite of passage

The final stage
A sacred home
Unlock the door
And lay the cornerstone
A rite of passage

Men of wealth and power
Influence and fame
Philosphers and leaders
Are members of the trade

Bound by oath and honor
Like the rose and cross
An enigmatic union
Of esoteric thought

Beneath the ever watchful eye
The angels of the temple fly

Turn the key
Walk through the gate
The great ascent
To reach a higher state
A rite of passage

The final stage
A sacred home
Unlock the door
And lay the cornerstone
A rite of passage

Turn the key
Walk through the gate
The great ascent
To reach a higher state
A rite of passage

The seven stars
The rising sun
A perfect world
A new life has begun
A rite of passage

Blatant new world order and freemason references, I dunno, just another bunch of freemason/illuminati puppets?

What's your take?

But yeah they do sound pretty awesome nonetheless.

Fuck yeah, DT owns. I've listened to Scenes from a Memory from start to end at least a thousand times. They're up there in my top 5.

My favorite, though, is the best band on the face of the planet. I present to you Between the Buried and Me.

Listen to the WHOLE song:

Amazing outro:

Go find more. This band is the most creative, soulful and technically proficient band I've ever heard and I'm pretty much in love with them.

Oh and no "screaming is garbage" comments. Listen to this to hear him sing your ass off. Skip to 2:39:

That first Dream Theater song above I cant listen to for 7.5 minutes.

Awful, boring, muddy vocals, repetitious studio music.

If they have all those emotions for you... and they seem to be new world order doesnt that cause some concern for you?

I can think of a million better bands. Some are:

Nirvana
Stone Temple Pilots
Pearl Jam
White Stripes
System of a Down.
Outkast

I'm going to have to say Rise Against and Thrice. Two bands that I can't get enough of. The lyrics and tempo of Rise Against are just fucking awesome and Thrice's lyrics and musical diversity just rocks

Hell I forgot about The Doors, Creed, Bob Marley, Nirvana, Peral Jam, 3 Doors Down, Cypress Hill, Dream Theater, RATM and TONS of other musicians/artists.

Slayer / Reign in Blood. Been listening to this album for 20 years and it still seems to get better with each listen, it's just fucking awesome.

Queen. I loved their randomness that just made so much sense.

+1 Tool Hands down most talented writer/singer/music out there.

+1 NIN...love me some Trent.

EDIT: Thanks wickedjoe for the video. I played it on the main screen and turned up the stereo. Me and the 11 month old got our jam on this morning. He loved it.
