The Best Anti-Virus Software

Avira, it does a good job. Never had a problem.

Symantec is the biggest pain I know about and a huge resource hog. It places itself everywhere and slows everything down. First thing I do on new Windows PCs is deinstall it if its there.

Avira AntiVir - with the guard and scan heuristics cranked up to 'high'. I used to depend on AVG, but it's nowhere near as good as it used to be on the detection front - which nearly resulted in the death of my desktop recently, due to a couple of quite nasty viruses sneaking through.

With my AntiVir settings, false positives are quite common. If anything is flagged with heuristics, I tend to get the file checked by uploading it to one of those multi-virus-scanner sites. They email you back with the result, after scanning it with the top brass of available virus scanners.

:R:

I've used AVG free on 3 towers and a laptop for about a year now and have yet to encounter any problems.

I had been using a couple versions of Norton, single license anti virus and enterprise version. They worked fine for years but then I had a couple bad episodes, stuff that should have been blocked for sure, that turned me right off.
