Anyone here spend too much time in loud bars/clubs and have tinnitus or hearing damage because of it?

I ordered some ear plugs the other day for loud concerts but as much as I want to wear them in clubs too, I feel I'd get some weird stares. But then again, is it worth going out to these places to suffer permanent hearing damange and tinnitus for the rest of your life? I don't think so.

When I was out last night, even regular bars had either live entertainment that had their amp turned up to 11, or the usual club music blasting making it impossible to talk to the person next to you and ensuring your ears would be ringing when you got home.

So what the fuck are you supposed to do when even regular bars want to make you deaf? I'm sure the young crowd in here won't understand or care but I'm guessing the older guys would/should care because they're probably experiencing the same symptoms after years of abuse.

Just wanted to know how others feel about this.

tinnitus sufferer here.

I hate it.

I got these custom molded ear plugs and you can choose the level of db reduction that have few different types. Westone: The In-Ear Experts

The ones I have are clear I don't think they are easily noticed and since its custom molded it goes all the way inside your ear canal unlike the cheap ones which probably stick out of your ear.

Yes. I have tinnitus from spending a couple of years as a DJ in the early 2000s. It absolutely sucks - there's never, ever any "silence" anymore. Thankfully I got smart a short while into my clubbing / DJ'ing life and got custom earplugs made with interchangeable -5, -10 and -15 dB pads that I could wear while using my headphones. I still have more hearing damage in my "monitor" (right) ear though.

Who gives a shit? Buy the earplugs. If you get custom ones made (they pour some shit into your ear canal to get an exact fit) they're not really that noticeable.

You think incorrectly.

Your ears ringing is a sign that temporary threshold shift couldn't protect you and that you have caused hearing damage that may be permanent. Auditory fatigue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Buy the earplugs and wear them religiously. I'm very, very glad that I made the choice to do so or I have no idea how my hearing would be now.

Tangy, have you looked into botox ear injections? I'm considering it. Maybe not now, but if it does get worse it could be an option for me.

I've had tinnitus since I was born. It's a catch22 because if I don't listen to music I hear that fucking ringing sound all the time but if I listen to constant music then there's a chance that it will get worse. I chose music! After club the pitch may change but it's still there, when I drink it becomes louder and changes pitch. Sometimes I can even hear a static nerve sound, it's hard to explain.

I haven't considered ear plugs but I detest the constant ringing so I would think that it amplifies it, no?

I have a favorite bar, but after 10 it gets LOUD so now I go early and leave by 9:45. Not ideal, but I'm married and there just for a drink and occasionally a snack with some company, so it's alright.

I almost didn't get to rappel out of helicopters anymore because Sepultura fucking ruined my hearing for a couple weeks (during which I failed three hearing tests). It eventually went away but that constant ringing sucked balls. Good luck bros.

No one will double take/give a fuck if you have hearing protection in my experience. I don't go to concerts/bar bands without hearing protection. Rang for 3 days after a Rolling Stone concert and no way I'm letting that happen again.

Also, smoking(anything) can affect and even worsen tinnitus.

I've played in garage bands and played drums for about a decade now, and still hear fine. I don't think going to loud bars every once in a while will do to much serious damage. If so, just wear dem earplugs man.

Literally, since birth? Damn, that sucks.

I usually only notice mine at night when I put my head down on the pillow (I'm a side-sleeper). Once something covers up my ear to where there's no outside noise, the ringing almost sounds amplified. Drives me up the fucking wall...

I'm luckily 30+ so not going to be hitting the clubs several times a week anymore.

I'd recommend you to begin frequenting venues playing ambient/chill out music instead of bass pumping shitpop with the only goal of making conversation impossible and therefore increasing alchohol sales.

Its fucking worth it bros, when you're popping bottles and grinding on every piece of pussy in the club to Sean Paul do you give a shit about your hearing? Fuck no.
