One of the biggest thoughts that go on with entrepreneurs I think is: What is the next big thing and how can I get my piece of it?

I've seen a lot of ideas fly lately that I honestly thought sucked.
Youtube - free videos. Seems pretty tame to be worth 1.6billion
Digg - People post news articles on it... a user submitted aggregator. Why is this a big thing?

But it makes you think what are people really looking for? What is the next big thing? Is it all about media? News coverage? A bit of both? Then you have to consider guys like technorati virtually have the middle covered but why isn't it taking off?

What is the next -big- thing on the internet?

you are talking about vaginal relaxation, you came up with a product and you are trying to get us to believe there is nothing weird about it? LOL that is classic!

What I was saying is there are no graphic images on the site that are NSFW or that would gross anyone out, etc. Granted not everyone can understand/appreciate the product.

Prediction: People are getting so needy with news and current events, I am anticipating seeing a streaming news service that .... actually you know what? That idea is too good to give out. :D

Honestly, in relation to Youtube and Myspace, I wouldn't call Digg "big." For geeks, perhaps, but not mainstream. Here is the evolution I see for "hip" online interaction chat rooms -> instant messaging -> social networking. For media the web kind of went images -> audio -> video.

The next progression here isn't very visable. SMS has taken a big chunk out of what AIM used to be, so I imagine as mobile technology continues to evolve we are going to see lots of social networking and streaming video being done on the phone. In the meantime I think online gaming will continue to grow & dominate the PC. Someone is going to do the whole 3D interactive environment right, but I'm not convinced thats going to be "next."

Andrew, you're right. The Helio sort of took the first step in the social networking via phone. The iPhone will go one up on it integrating everything you could think of into one solution.

There's not a whole lot of us little guys to do but work out of small promotions giving away phones, zip and email promo etc.

There's no real pie in those goods that I can really see right now.

I shit you not, I got the next big thing. But unfortunately I don't have the proper capital to get it off the ground. And bootstrapping isn't going to do it either. It has to be done right or not at all. I came up with it to solve a problem that I was having. And it will so work. But need $$$ and a good team to get it off the ground. Mean time, I'm crossing my fingers that no one else comes out with it first. Hopefully, I will get there. And I'm totally serious, this is not a scam. And the beauty of it is a KISS type of solution. If I told you what it was you'd be like, shit that's so easy, but why didn't I think of it. Sometimes, something is looking at you right in the face and you don't even notice it. This could easily make millions. And best of all it would be free for the end user.

Sort of an offtopic/random comment.... but erm.... thanks?

Vaginal Relaxation.... hahahhahahahahaha

I hope this term lives on in WickedFire glory much like the term "Worseless"

Used in context:
Person 1: Will you stop fucking spamming me with PM's you worseless asshat!
Person 2: Chill the fuck out - you need some vaginal relaxation.

Honestly, reading the Vaginal Relaxatoin comments made me laugh harder than I have in a loooong time . Especially since I didn't see the link until someone pointed it out. Ahhhhhhhh that was good.

Back on track.

Joost™ - This is the next big thing. Everything these guys touches turns to gold, Kazaa, Skype. And since they are in Europe, it insulates them from some of the US companies that don't want this to happen.

YouTube has the potential to be a stream television service, but I think it needs a lot of work to get there.

MySpace, pfft! Millions of dollars and they still can't code the site to work half way decent, not to mention all the freaking spammers who have accounts.

Thanks for the kind words Brad - I'm hoping it only gets better! Now back on topic:

I think one of the keys to spotting the "next big thing" is simply doing your reading. Read Business Week, Wall Street Journal, Fortune Magazine... heck even you US Weekly and People Magazine might have some gems. But, you can't just LOOK for the information to find a niche to exploit. Get in the habit of reading some periodicals just for the hell of it - for enjoyment and education. Stay in touch with the news. If you do so regularaly, things will start popping out at you like: wow I could really get ahead of the game on this. Or wow this market is totally underserved.

Most people miss the "next big thing" until it is already the "big thing". If someone could tell us how to spot it... we'd all be rich. But we can't all be rich it's all about the first mover advantage. So - always keep your eyes peeled. An earlier post about realizing what your OWN problems are and fulfilling them is another good point in helping spot the "Next Big Thing".

By the time something has made it to (lycos top 50) Movers & Shakers: Angelina, Harry, and "American Idol" you're pretty much shit out of luck. But, it's a good place to look for trends and ideas. I think the biggest point is don't put all your eggs in one basket. Do some arbi, do some mfa, do some whitehat sites do some forums do some wordpress autoblogs do some of whatever you can. The more seeds you sew the more you'll benefit.

At the same time, don't spread yourself thin or you'll never get anything done. Focus hard for a full week on one thing while only "maintaining" your other sites. Next week, focus on something else. I probably make less on this forum than the vast majority of regular posters, but I'll tell you what, it won't be long. Because I sleep with both eyes open and sew a lot of seeds.

And I read all the boobies threads front to end which helps for karma.

Dudes with 40 year old wives with 4 kids will enjoy the product.... Who likes loose pussy?

What I was saying is there are no graphic images on the site that are NSFW or that would gross anyone out, etc. Granted not everyone can understand/appreciate the product.

I try to spend less time thinking about what the NEXT big thing is and more time thinking about what could be big a year or more down the road.

I certainly haven't "made it" yet, but I feel like a lot of people are afraid to take risks. Sometimes you have to go all-in. I also see that a lot of people, myself included, get discouraged when they don't see immediate results. Shit takes time and work, there's a lot of easy money out there; but if you can't get your hands on the easy money then there's even more money out there that takes real work to get.
